Sooke Bluffers

SO for those of you that fish the bluffs and trailer park etc where are you launching from to get out there. Do you run out from Cheannuh or do you do the Sunny Shores thihg? What about Jock's Dock? Is this launch any good, parking etc.

Yes there is launching/parking at Sunny Shores or Jocks Dock (beside old Sooke hrbr Marina).Jocks launch is not as steep as sunny shores which is trouble for large 24' boats at lower tides. So check the tide book.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Seems pretty slow everywhere but last year the bluffs and trailer park were still giving up fish in March.

What is the dock like at Jocks? Parking?

My 16' Double Eagle will launch just about anywhere but it is nice to have a decent dock to tie to.

ya gotta be careful, especially at low tide
run to the opposite side of the spit, and then hug the shorline
watching the marker buoys.
there are times when you can see the bottom.

I've done it once and as long as you have a GPS chartplotter and/or a good understanding of bouys you'll be fine. If not, there is lots of potential for trouble as there is anywhere in the ocean.

Rumour has it that a new marina or ramp is going in across from Silver Streak. Any how i am glad i have my moorage, it's going to be a gong show without another ramp.

You will all wantto read a editorial note I submitted to the Sooke News Mirror concerning this problem. The Editor advised me it would be published this coming Wed. Will it do any good? Not for the upcoming season but then I will contact Tourism BC after publication.
