Skagit Orca scupper

I am replacing the rectangular scuppers which lets more water in than out.
The scupper that I am thinking about replacing it with is a ball style.
Wondering if anyone has any tips on the project as well as scupper size and style.
Thanks

I had to change the scupper out on our XLC 24. Every time I would start backing up in a little water chop the door would get flipped open and water would come rushing in and start flooding the back deck. Two trip and they were gone.

The port boat house in Port Alberni created a replacement kit. On the exterior of the hull they mounted a piece of aluminum and sealed it to the hull, it had bolt holes to match the rectangle scupper's bolt pattern so it fit well. In ruffly the center of the plate they cut a large hole to match a large ball scupper diameter (2"?) and they then tapped holes in the aluminum plate so the ball scupper bolted to the aluminum plate. The bottom of the ball scupper was mounted at the bottom of the original rectangle floor drain hole.

Never had a problem since. But you have to remove the ball scuppers every year and give them a clean out or they will grow moss and not seal well. but that is an easy job.

You could probably make the aluminum plate out of plastic cutting board.

I have the same boat, and had the same problem. Only with the kicker in reverse, not the mains, is it an issue. I had some scupper plugs 3D printed that get thrown in place if back trolling

Thanks Doug
Sounds like they did a great job. Good tip about keeping scupper clean.

YES I had the ball ones as well they do work but if you get a piece of fishing line or eel grass, eaweed etc, they dont seal which is a major pain ... just make sure they are kept clean be fine. wash down pump is your friend
