Modifying Bauer Traps to Meet New Prawn Trap Regulation

Just talk to two fisheries officers at the local outdoor show. They said they are just looking for the rot cord. Yes, ideally it would good if the door fell open but a bungy fastened hooked onto rot cord is fine. They even gave me rot cord, rope compared to what I was using.

Can we confirm a bungy fastened hook onto rot cord is fine?

I can only tell you that is what I was told by two uniformed DFO officers. I stated I was concerned the door will not "fall" open when the cord rots being my doors are on the top. He said, we're just looking for the rot cord. Hopefully translation of the written regulation does not vary amongst enforcement officers. I know what I am going to do and I have names.

Based on what I saw last weekend in my traps I would suggest people just modify them to actually work. The door shoukd drop down.

I know we had a discussion on this in our Area17 meeting and the DFO officers were in agreement it has to work also.

Not a hard modification to do. I was opposed at first but doing modification wasn't a big deal.[/QUOTE]
