Sidney area

yup - got a nice teener last night on the tide change. Absolutely bubbling with bait where we fished, from 120 to the surface it was great to see. Even the seals seemed to well fed to bother following us.

Been out 2 nights in a row. Fished Coal island, Saanichton Spit, island View, No luck! Seems like fish have moved on? Not as much feed around.
Maybe I am just a s#%$$y fisherman......lol:D

I ended up fishing Pender bluffs today. 4:30-10:30 not a sniff.
3 or 4 other boats never seen them catch any.

might try saanichton spit tonight.

Hey Twins, did you manage to get out to Saanichton spit? Any luck?

Going out one night this week, might try Coal Island. I haven't trolled around Coal before, do you usually start near Sidney spit and then head towards Coal Island through the cut and carry on around the East side?

No i didn't. I usually fish the east side of coal island. from dock island to the eastern part of coal. up against coal can be good but watch for the rocks on the south east corner.
I stopped there the other day, no boats, no feed on sounder. but things may be different. Head out to The spit tonight.

Yup, that's pretty much the track I was going to try fishing. Will check it out first and if there is still no bait around I might try James Island or Hamley Point. Shouldn't be too long before Fairfax starts to show some fish.

Keep the reports coming, much appreciated!

Fished Wymond Pt from 6:00 til 8:45 only 1 dogfish for my troubles.
Loads of Bait around the Birds were coming up with tons in their mouth.
try again on Thursday.

Cheers

Any news from Sidney? Will be out tommorow morning, thinking of starting at Fairfax and then moving to Hamley and James Island by the afternoon. Outfitters report mentions some coho being caught, do you typically fish shallower for coho than you would for Springs?

Cheers,

Weinstein

Shallower, faster speed, and shorter leaders. Usually top 50ft, not uncommon to see coho chase bare hooks or downrigger clips beside the boat. If I were you I would grind it out for springs (Hambley, Fairfax) you still will have a chance at a random coho, probably more of a chance getting springs over there than coho. Throw a center rod out stacked at 40ft or put 6-8oz of weight and a naked spoon out while fishing for springs, you will be in the game for both. You never know either, I have caught springs with 6oz out the middle with 6 pulls.

Weinstein,

I might be out there tomorrow as well, I think i will try the slack/ start of the flood tide in the AM at Hamlbey or Wymond Pt
I will be in 18.5 hourston.

Twinwinds, I was thinking of starting in the AM at Fairfax and then heading to Hambley for the slack in the afternoon. Decisions, decisions, decisions!! Hopefully one of us will get some fish in the morning!

I'll keep an eye out for you, I'm in a 28 Baha Sportfisher, with a blue canvas top.

fished Wymond Pt from 5:30-9:30 2 fish on. 1 broke the line and the other just came off..it was fun anyway.
both at 90 ft using small herring in green/chrome teaser heads.

try again tonight or tomorrow after work.

cheers
