Wondering what is going on with this reel. When you tighten the drag the drag stays the same which is relatively easy to pull line out.
Any ideas as to what could be happening.
I brought the reel home from the boat. Started checking it and the drag seems to be working as it should. I’m wondering if I’m maybe giving it too good of a freshwater rinse after fishing and that the drag is getting wet causing slippage.

I rinse it with the drag on it’s setting when fishing, not loosened off.
I fished the reel last night thinking it was back working properly but it’s not. Started slipping again even when tightened.

I was hoping for somes Aces magic solution . I guess I should take apart but when I visited PNT the guy told me they don’t mess with them due to the amount of pieces and complexity. They just send them to Shimano.
Called up Shimano Canada (fish shop.shimano.ca). And he diagnosed issue over phone. Turns out I have what they call line slippage. This happens a lot with braid. The braided line slips on the spool as it can get wet and lose friction. Test it by putting thumb on portion of spool with no line and then try and pull line out. If you can pull line out without the spool moving then you have line slippage. It also makes sense because my line counter was getting out of whack as well and had to keep resetting it back to zero once I got line back up to the surface. Also my reel rinsing likely contributed as the line can get a bit more moist which can reduce friction on the spool.
To fix it he recommended to take braid off and then put a wrap of electrical tape on spool and then respool line back on (using arbor knot). The vertical tape acts as a bit of a cushion and lets the braid grab spool more firmly.
