Lefty/righty paradox

I am right handed and I want my dominant hand/arm casting and controlling the rod. Winding with the left is easy and natural for me. Whether I’m fly fishing or fishing my mooching reel on my boat, I’ve got everything set up for left hand retrieve. But I can do it the other way, it just isn’t ideal.

Ditto!

It's pretty easy to figure out how things happen-if you are older. Growing up I had multiple spinning reels I learned on from the age of 6-they were all left hand-most couldn't be changed-that came later but I continiued to reel left handed. Then in my late 20's I came to BC-most reels for trolling were right hand-ok I'm rt handed so no problem-but I still fished left handed spinning rods. I started guiding in my late 60's and I had request for left hand reels-pain to convert but doable-so I had both on the boat. No longer guiding close to 80 and I sometimes get a very bad rt rotor cup-use a left hand reel til it improves. You do what you have to do to fish-like riding a bike-try it you might like a change or you might have to.

I am left handed in a lot of things, but do adapt to the right hand world. Like Squire, I had a Mitchell 300 for trout fishing from the 60's till now. Started off my mooching/trolling reels were left hand, but got tired of the complaining from people🤣. So switched them all to right hand and eveyone is happy now.
