18 inch loops will work. Just big enough to pass the whole coil of the 150 foot piece through the loop. Put some red or yellow electrical tape 10 feet up to warn you the join us coming. You might have to muscle it past the Scotty puller but probably not.
Some people pull the whole works by hand so to get the splice past the puller is no big deal.
I wouldn't tape over the join. PITA to undo.

I've been using 400' of this kind of poly. 100' of weighted rope is already spliced in. Easy peasy.

These are good too. Light and hold 500’of line easy. I’ve seen them at garden stores as well.
