I tried the PP Line. Worked well for everyone but me, but I'm not exactly known for my delicate surgeons hands on those things. Worked great off Vic, but trolling 4 Knots at 220 Feet with 15 pounders in Swiftsure Crap was too much for it.
I use the Scotty 300LB stuff. Going on season 5 of the same line, dropping maybe one ball a year for completley un-line related problems. It does blow back a little bit more, but it works for me. Best example was at the last Boozers derby in my old 23 footer one of the guys who was with me wasn't watching and got hung up off Christopher Point. It stopped the 23 footer, busted the lock on the swivel mount, and stopped the boat.
We all know what would happen if that was wire. I used to play with a black box and was sold on the idea, but there is something to be said for chuckin' your lead over teh side and getting down to fishing.
As far as attaching the release clip so it doesn't twirl around the line? Drill a hole in the fin, clip to the ball loop, then zap tie to the hole in the fin. When it spins, the leader to the clip hangs below the ball and no more spin..
