Got one for xmas

was wondering if its cool to mount it to the top of my swivel rigger mount ??

Instructions are lame the show it mounted to the top side of the hull , I think it will be much tidier of the base

I mounted mine to the side of the swivel mount. The plastic piece will just fit against the base of the swivel mount and no need to drill screw holes just screw in the stainless screws into the swivel.

I mounted mine to the side of the downrigger swivel too. Works great. takes a bit to adjust your stoppers so that when you pull the weight in does not hit the boat. I use pancake weights and found it is better to have them stay in the water after pulling in towards the boat. Does not hit the boat then. This little retreiver makes it much safer to clip your line back on. Easier on the back too!

Have rigged 5 boats this way including MyEscape 4 years ago. Mounted the cleat portion right to the bottom lip on swivel mounts in the middle to allow removal of mounting bolts making for quick removal of downriggers. I drilled very small pilot holes to prevent any plastic cracks. All I can say is it makes life so much easier for re clipping your lines and on your back. It made it so easy to run my riggers out the full 60" using 48" or 60" scotty clips. It also gave me enough room to pull the weight out of the water when I had fish on even with a snubber used between the cable and ball without hitting the boat.

Cheers ME

here's a picture of my setup. This way it stays with the downrigerwhen you remove from the base. Would drill a couple of pilot holes first.

Frankly I found them to be a pain in the a$$. The line was always getting in the way of something. Now I just swing the boom into the side of the boat if I want to get at the ball or get it out of the way when playing a fish.

Totally agree cuba I have my downriggers way forward so when I swival them the clip is right at the back of the boat to re clip I found it was just another thing for kelp and seaweed to hang up on. and when i get a fish on swival the rigger pointing towards the boat totally out of the way of netting a fish and way esier on the back.

PS sir reel looks like another scotty pic to go to the 08 pics that scotty sure does get around LOL

Hey Wolf. As you can see in the picture on my boat the riggers are mounted way back so can't swing them forward. Is very hard to clip on without using the retrieval line.
Wish I could have them mounted like yours. Have seen your boat, always nicely rigged! Hence your excellent catch rate I am sure!:D
Scotty does get around! That's him in Burdwood bay, Nootka Sound.

Why cant you swival them forward???I dont quite understand then all you do is reach down and clip on or maybe it is time to repostion the riggers???again this is just a suggestion as I dont know your boat. But I think we chatted last year????at SS???

Thanks for the words

Good luck Wolf

Yes we did chat a few times at Sunny Shores! I am from the interior so only make it down a few times a year. Last year we did Nootka and did not fair to well! What is happening at SS? Is Andy still owner. Do you know if it will be runing this summer? Not sure were my trip will be this year but always enjoyed Sooke and fishing was good to us.
I could swivel the riggers back but this setup works quite well for us. The boat is a Campion Explorer and the built in mounting pads are well back. Would have to do some fancy bracket to mount further forward because of the gunnell. It does allow me to turn sharp without getting in the prop though.
Cheers! SR
