Down Rigger Rod Holder Placement

Good info. Maybe will do that instead of spending $400 on the burewiins.

This one, except with a flush deck mount.

If you are only using the Burnewiin for rod holders and not as down rigger mounts, you can save a bunch and go with GM400 or GM300 bases which are around $80 ea and then get the rod holder of your choice.

Another option is a true flush mount holder if you have clearance. They have a 30-degree angle. I actually still have these available - you can take all four for $50. https://sportfishingbc.com/threads/flush-mount-rod-holders.67437/

Honestly, I would keep the dual rod holder base that you have and reposition the forward holder so it positions the rod in your preferred position.

Ya, I have the fushmount female and then the scott rod holders ahead of the rigger. Works ok. But for kids and shorter people, and to make it easier with no risk of a broken rod holder, I've also been looking at drilling holes and installing a flush mount rod holder.

Pros and cons.

I like being able to have my hali rod mounted this way, but am prepared to put the hali rod in the downrigger holder if I go to flush mounts. Will see if this ends up being an off season change, or if I just stick with how I have it set.

Nothing endures like the temporary.

think i have more rod mounts on my older 16' DE than most if i get chance i'll post some pics up

I really like my setup. 16.5’ Lund and I mocked up a few knee brace fighting stations with flush mount rod holders. So good. Hook a fish, grab the rod, lock into the knee brace and you are totally secure regardless of wave action. Nobody staggers around any more.

Also great for setting gear because both hands can be used. Best upgrade!

I have an old glass Lund 19, riggers are mounted well aft to free up gunwale space and keep cable angles away from props. I did what you're thinking about, separate rod holder in a side mount, mine are Orcas.

Setup works for me, easy to pop holders out to make room for prawn and crab traps coming over the side, while the riggers stay where they are, out of the way. Since the pictures, Ive added flush mounts forward, up by the bimini, to hold spare rods, net etc, handy but out of the way.

Can you reach your clip by hand or have cable retrievers mounted or gaff?

Very creative!

Hi guys,

I have an 18ft DE with the riggers fairly close to the back corners, adjacent to the rear seats. Currently I have the dual rocket launcher holder attachment, and it’s a bit of a high reach and awkward getting the rod out of the holder.

I want to install flush mount gunnel rocket launcher holders in front of the rigger (towards the bow) to make it easier grabbing and setting the rod.

Curious if folks have similar set ups and can send a photo how it looks? Do your rods go out the side or vertically over top of the rigger? Open to other ideas as well!
Lots of great ideas here, I will share mine... I PERSONALLY like the downriggers as far forward as practical. When playing and netting fish, it is far easier to have them behind you than in front. It allows unobstructed access for the person doing the netting. I think rod holders are a matter of personal preference. I haven't run into any I would call really bad.
