Sansum Narrows....winter springs?

Should be out around 9 or so, set the prawn traps then do some fishing, I am in a 21' hard top bayliner trophy, what channel do you monitor, we should be out there most of the day, hope to see you out there

Well a bit slower of a day today... had fun playing a scrappy little spring just under the size limit by 2 cm. He jumped a couple feet right out of the water about 20-30ft off the stern. Caught it on the new Go-Pro so that made the day. A boat next to me landed a nice fish they kept.

cheers

Great day on the water (when isn't it), we caught one cod and 1 shaker spring, fourty four, thank-you for the info this is my 3rd year for salmon and all info is very valuable to me. Prawning was o'k, starter solenoid decided to pack it in, oh well

no prob weasondog.. It seemed as though there was a larger size school of smaller sized fish holding up around there this time. crazy you saw a bunch of jumpers. my sounder was showing a tonne of fish at around 50-70ft. I left shortly after you left as a whole bunch of seals moved in just before low slack. I had 4-5 following me right above my gear! Im done with feeding seals and loosing gear. you know when they show up in numbers its time to go.

Cheers

I hear you on the seal's, there was alot over at tent before we moved. My dad is coming over for new years and we are going to see if we can get out tomorrow, yourself??

supposed to be a beauty day so hopefully i'll be out too... Ive been thinking about trying Porlier soon as well... I think if it is super calm I will or if its a bit choppy ill probably try tent or somewhere different. Im wondering what the big night time flood tides do to the fish?? Where are they likely to end up?

One thing that I noticed yesterday was that the water was cleaner at tent than Sansun and then it got dirty again heading to Ladysmith

That's because the dirty water from the Cowichan River in Cowichan Bay gets sucked out through the Narrows when the tide changes.

Awesome day on the water today, fished the same area as yesterday and sounded no bait at all, but my dad and I did good on the prawns but better than anything was the laugh's I had with my dad,I was putting out the traps and got him to drive and his elbow(so he say's) hit's the throttle and almost put me in the drink, he laugh's and tell's me to pay attention. Just another funny memory.

prawning today

I agree...a beautiful day on the water, as I was worried starting out at - 1 degree, but it got calmer as we were out there, and warmed up considerably as the day went on. We were at Tent Island, tried fishing for winter springs, but caught none.... nothing on the sounder either. The prawns were there in very good numbers, we had to release the last two traps because we already had our limits. Amazing...the Crofton launch ramp was almost full, no other parking spots left. New Year's Prawns were obviously a priority, and certainly available.

Happy New Year all!

what a beauty day on the water yesterday! left the dock at about 7:40 and it was glass. Ill never want to miss a sunrise like that again. due to the conditions I decided to try porlier instead. Good choice. fished all day and the fish were biting from the first 15 minutes to the last. fished till about 230. it did slow down for bit but we got our biggest at about 2. we released 2 spring that were just under and 4 nice ling. kept a 10,12,15 ill post the pics soon.

Well the weather looks like its going to be nice here for a few... I should be out wed for sure, winds light and sunshine! maybe tomorrow too or thursday. Been busy eating fresh winter fish and smoking the last of my big guys from Bamfield.:)

I'm new to this forum and fishing in this area in general. Has anyone been out and fished Sansum, Tent, or Porlier lately?

Well, I live on Saltspring and so far have only been prawning and doing quite well. Just getting geared up for winter spring and using a different than usual. I need a Scotty pedestal mount if anybody has one that's gathering dust.

make sure you hold onto your wallet while dealing with crazyhorse Mike--he's a grinder. :D
