Re powering my Monaro 24 with a 300 hp outboard. What 300 to use

I have a 2024 df350a with fly by wire. Prior to this i always had mechanical controls - I can't see myself every going back to mechanical - very smooth and precision control. There is a cost to it upfront though.

I would recommend looking into the DF300 counter rotating or the 350 if you can have that extra hp on the bracket.

This counter rotating prop makes my 26ft aluminum the best handling boat I've owned. So much bite, tons of power and at low speeds it maneuvers better than my old 18ft trophy.

Definetly look into them

100% fly by wire over mechanical controls. When you’re done the repower it’s the digital controls you interact with that makes the whole thing feel like a new boat.

Spoke with Brad from Monaro today. He suggested a mercury or Yamaha 250 or 300. Said that the boat was rated for a 300 Has any one ran a mercury 300? Has any one had or heard of issues with the motors? Opinions on verado vs seapro vs the fourstroke model? Again still just looking for any opinions experiences or just whatever. Still not opposed to a single prop Suzuki 300. I did ask about the duo prop 300 and he didn’t seem to think it was the best of ideas based on weight.

I have had multiple sets of the v8 seapros. I currently have the 250 4 stokes and 300 seapros. They have been great. There are tons of them in ukee now. Best displacement to weight ratio in the class. We also have good dealer service at rpm in tofino which is great. I don't buy any big power but the mercs.

I was under the impression that the 24 Monaro was only rated for a 300hp max. And seeing how my Honda 250 was a 3.5l or 3.6l v6, that if I went with a 300 which are 4l or larger should get better performance with the increased torque from a larger displacement engine. Hopefully increasing my cruising speeds some and lowering my rpms by being able to turn a higher pitch prop. Let me know if this assumption is correct or not. Also the 300 hp motors I believe are all lighter than my Honda is, other than the Suzuki duo prop. Not sure if there’s enough of a weight difference to really matter or not. As far as cable vs fly by wire is there a real big difference as far as operating goes? I have no current plans for main motor controls at the stern. Any one have issues with fly by wire systems?
Suzuki 300 are only FBW

Seapro or verado or 4-stroke Mercury has a solid platform of all engines. I would most likely go seapro, you are going to have a lot of power that you will love.

RPM is one of the best dealerships I the Pacific Northwest

Does anyone have a Seapro with big hours on it or are they too new?
My buddy has a new 400 and he likes it but a little tough on fuel.

All those water taxis running from Tofino to Ahousat. They were the original Mercury test vessels

So with the sea pro other than being de rated a little bit what’s the other real differences? Larger lower unit?

Firmer engine mounts I think and lower gear ratio. Same gear case size I beleive. At first as a commercial version they had less warranty

my 2024 df350a is most economical at 4300 rpm at 25 knots (28 mph), I burn 50 liters an hour ( 13.2 gph). 26ft northwest aluminum craft.
