Port Renfrew 2009 Season

Slowed down today for springs, still got 'em on the bank. Was DEAD slow for whoever I talked to at the beach! There were lots of Coho rolling in 200-400 feet of Water, and the beach guys were getting a lot of the as well. You can get a lot of Coho around 5 miles out of Carmanah point, from around 11:00-3:00 it's calmish, then get out of there, for those of us with smaller rigs.

Ah, come on Kelly, what's wrong with 15-20 swells? It has been soooo long since I went around Cape Beal in anything less than 15' swells, I don't remember! :)

Hey nedarb don't you have a chart ?
Alternatively if you are the Marina they have one , just look at it and check the scale.

Ditto that Charlie
I will be hitting the town next week also. My Boat is 18' Alum hardtop made by Liquid Metal.

Good Luck

1 Week today till my trip :) so now some questions are going to start [:p]

When im fishing coho after of course getting my springs in the morning[^] Should i just be heading out to the 300'ish water mark, and then start heading out until i get into some fish?
And shouldi be using a flasher, or just throw a couple spoons in the water by themselves and go from there?
Any other notes or comments that will come in handy in helping put some fish into the boat? Ive fished renfrew for a few years now with buddies, but this is the first year i've been using my boat and so far have only done east point with decent success.
Thanks
Nedarb

This time of year the coho don't seem to be that fussy once you find them. We were out last weekend with the kids. Straight out from Camper and along the line 600'. Limit of Pinks and coho no problem. We usually run 3 lines on the rigger(4 if you really want to work). Flasher and pink plankton hootchie or orange krippled k will take pinks/coho/sockeye. I usally have at least one flasher and coyote/apex for coho.
Sometimes you have to be a little patient to find them but once you do its non stop action.

God Damn %%*#@#
I just got put on call today for a forest fire - which means if im called out my long weekend trip and birthday bash is out of the picture until im back up to 2 weeks later [V]
Fingers crossed for no more fires and improvements on the ones already burning [B)]

LASTCHANCE, do you think she is ready to heat up again here soon? I imagin it will get really hot and heavy here in the next 2 weeks I would think. Any thoughts?

Got a couple of reports from Port Renfrew today that fishing on the Beach is very good. Get on it while it's happening...here today, gone tomorrow?!?!

Good news from Port Renfrew Marina! It appears another school of spring salmon are passing through Port Renfrew, and fishing on "the Beach" is excellent. Yesterday saw many 30 pound chinook salmon weighed in, and most boats had their limit from mid-teens into the 20s.

Trevor from No Bananas Fishing Charters sent in this report and photo: "Swiftsure Bank is still very good with limit catches of halibut and spring salmon. The good news is the Beach is finally consistent with many 30-pound plus fish." The photo is a 42 pounder caught Monday.

Just posted this on the Sooke thread.. though I should post it here also..

I was up there yesterday (Sat.) fishing Renfrew, good morning bite lots of springs being played out.. we had 3 good springs on, lost them all ! They were not sticking, friends boat he lost 3 springs, another boat we know lost two, another boat came on the radio said he lost two springs at the boat, another boat we talked to lost 3 springs... saw another boat play a big spring out behind the boat for awhile... pop! gone.. ohh was he pissed... I can'nt repeat what he was yelling ! Very weird day, one of those days where the springs were not sticking well.. Either way the big springs were there! Buddy I fished with he was out on Friday, he landed 3 in the high twenties.. had a triple header on of big springs, landed one spring, had a few others on as well, his friend same day Friday had a 40,30 and two in the teens. So ya I'd say the fish are coming.. from what I saw looks good hope these spring come down quick to Sooke!

Actually they started showing up last week, my fishing buddy up there had a 38lber. the day before the derby last weekend.. as of Yesterday I was told so I quote what I heard(personaly did not look at the board my self) "there were 10 springs over 40 on the Renfrew marina board"... So ya, get ready Sooke.. I think there on there way@!@!

fish sat boated two one first 15min 40plus and then lost three hits then boated 25.5 tried for coho and hit humpy at 300 to 623 feet for two hours there was a fish on every 15 sec there is millions , let all go just for fun, then back to the beach[^]

Here's a few scenic photos I took of my fishing trip yesterday, wish we had landed those springs we lost so I could of post some pics of springs instead of scenic photos.. [|)]
