Port Hardy

No problem, and out there u dont have to worry about being in anyones way. its a huge ocean. and people are more worried about the salmon fishing side of things. if your in a 50 ft boat, you may just have to stay on the outside of pack of boats and wait for a clear time to move in for a pass. if no pass comes you will still catch fish. When i was there everyone said go in tight to shore to hit big springs, we hit ours in 150 ft of water way out. so dont think they only live in the kelp. Thats a Rumor [:p]

Again thanks for the info. It looks as if there are a few guys who want to save this fishery for themselves. Of course there are fish off shore we know that. Not sure if we will make it up aferall but we will see.

I'll be in Port Hardy next week (Aug 10 - 14). Any words of encouragement about the state of the fishing? Advice on how to stay out of the way of those 50 ft boats bearing down on me would be appreciated too ... just kidding.

there is fish everywhere, guys are limiting out on springs at duval daily (seriously).

Glad to hear it, keep it going for another couple of days, I'll be there monday - friday. thanks for the report.

Been coming to Hardy for 13 years and still struggle with the Halibut - primarily location within 15 miles or so. Have tried many leads (ie. Christie Pass, Deserters, Airport, fish farm, Taylor Bank) but very very limited luck). Have the right gear, bait but just seem to not find them. Its getting frustrating as a result. Any additional advice someone can provide would be greatly appreciated. I give up asking at the docks because everyone seems so guarded once you ask them a question. Hopefully someone reads this posting and can provide some information that might make the difference. I'm not a big Halibut hunter guy here - just a dad with a kid who would love to have fun with a halibut. Cheers!
