Pics From My trip from Vancouver to Lund & Campbell River

Thanks the pictures. I'm a Powell River guy so always enjoy hearing from people who come this way and enjoy it. If you ever have any questions let me know. I guess you got a room in the lund hotel just for the heck of it? it looks like you can sleep on your boat no problem.

had some amazing fishing in your area when i was a kid , dad let me take the double eagle out solo
the first times in your area , no riggers , mostly buzz bombing for coho in blubber bay ( texeda south ) , lights out coho fishing ,
best yellow eye fishing ive ever seen , ( dad found a incredible hole one day , ridiculous huge fish ,
trolling near the mill for springs , lots of great memories there , here there slowly coming back !!
will be back one day , great summer festivals i remember too

Thanks for sharing. That's living the dream! Makes me want to work harder so I can do the same in the years to come.

Great write up CD and great Pics. Spent many summers in Desolation Sound and remember Lund and savory Island so well. Looks like the Lund hotel and all of the waterfront has seen a terrific face-lift since I was last there. Thanks for taking me on that journey through some great memories. :-)

thanks for sharing ,, look up teakerne arm "west Redonda" and stop with the family ay Cassel lake... great spot for a swim.

One of my favourite anchorages up that way. Have a shower in the waterfall each morning....nice and quiet place compared to others like Prideaux, Pendrell etc.

@Chasin' Dreams , looks like a great trip! Have friends that have a place in Blind Bay, it's a great little spot. I didn't see any pics or reference to it but while in Lund a cinnamon bun (or 4) is a must. ;);)

Great story and pictures ~ really enjoyed going on your trip! That windshield wiper was working over time on the run home and the bouncing wouldn't have helped L4 &5 :)
Haven't had it happen (yet) - how do you get an octopus out of a trap?

My pleasure sharing ILHG. I saw my dad, step dad, and my wife's dad all pass at young ages. I was very close to my wifes dad and we fished a lot together. Every chance we got. He had a lot of plans to see a lot of our coast and fish all he could when he retired. When he did retire he was gone within one year. I've always had anxiety over that and it's always in the back of my mind. Have always been worried that would happen to me too.

Primus! Awesome.
Ha ha ya great song!

You're very welcome finaddict. The hotel and the whole water front there look amazingly well kept. Everything was super clean and organized. Can't wait to get back. I was looking up the history on the hotel; noting how old it looked. Looks like it has been getting reno'd since 1999 and on. Here's a part of the write up from their web page. "After falling into disrepair in the late 1900's, the hotel was purchased 1999 and has undergone an ongoing series of renovations. In March of 2016 the Tla'amin Nation purchased 100% of the shares. In April of that year, their treaty was ratified and the hotel is now situated on treaty land. The hotel now features 31 renovated guest rooms that range from budget friendly units to lavish ocean front suites, all of which offer clean, bright decors and modern amenities."

Thank you for the tip trophywife! Will be sure to check that out when we are up next.

Ha ha Scott, I'm trying to watch my belly a little bit but I did buy some fresh baked berry muffins from the hotel. One thing I forgot to do is check out the gift shop under the hotel. Should have brought a gift home for my wife!

Thank you Pursuit. Ya the bumps are rough on the back. The suspension seat helps but still can feel it for sure. When you open the draw string to open the bottom of the prawn trap the octopus fall out. They suction cup on to everything. If you grab them with your hands they wrap your arms up sucking on to them. I'm a bit messed up in the brain about killing certain creatures lol. For some reason I have a problem killing them. They look you in the eyes and contort their heads all over the place. Very alien like lol. So I release them all. All though I have no issues eating them in restaurants and love it. Yes, I have issues lol.

Great trip CD. As all the others have said, very jealous. Someday we might get to enjoy what you just did. Love your rig and can only dream about getting one some day.

Thank you Oly. Is your first name Lance? I know a guide named Lance that we call Oly..?

Alright CD - you have inspired me and pushed me to make a decision!

A couple months back, My 70 year old dad (who has never been to desolation or up that way) was looking at our pics from 10 years back of when we were up there. We had a convoy of 3 boats, we set up base camp in Tenedos Bay, and from there, set out and day-tripped to Toba, Pendrell, Teakerne, Savary, and all the usual good stuff.

My dad, after looking at the pics, says somewhat unexpectedly "id love to go there one day and explore..."

Immediately I thought, how do I make this happen? Knowing camping and our previous type of exploring and excursions would be too much for my old man.

So, I've been chewing on it for a couple months and since seeing your pics, especially of Lund Hotel, perhaps my game plan will be to dial it back and use Lund as our home base for a few nights. Although there will be a couple lengthy cruises in our 17' boat, it's been done before and we would have a comfy base to return to each night.

Thanks again! Any other suggestions welcomed for accoms - I haven't found any others for reasonable prices thus far.

Check this out as well. http://desolationsoundresort.com/

I know the $ looks like a 5 so the price looks like crazy. Lund really is the best has a nice dock in front and close to Savary, desolation. Lund also has fuel after your day adventure easy to fill up.

Anybody that can travel to desolation sound by boat should make the effort,it's an amazing beautiful place. My wife and I did it twice running up the east coast of the island from Victoria in my old boat for 10 day trips. We stayed on the boat and used a sun shower mounted on the top of the boat, worked great. The hardest thing to deal with was getting water and getting rid of garbage, water was in short supply and nobody wanted to accept garbage bags. The cuddy cushions were also hard and uncomfortable, but I was younger and tolerated them,I couldn't now as I have the exact same back problem's .If I were to do it again I would trailer to Campbell river and go from there, gas is so much more expensive now.It' s great to see your pictures that bring back memories of our trip's .Thank You

Banger17 I think you made a great decision. Do it while you are motivated and while he is showing interest. It would make him feel great and loved to spend time with you like that. Peoples lives get so busy and it's so common for us all to put things off over and over until the ideas are put to the side sometimes without doing them.
I too am going to be looking at more options for accommodations up that way other than Lund but yes, Lund is very well set up and has fuel until 6 pm every day and is pretty close to a lot of the great sights up there. Great people working there too and it's nice to see the commercial fishermen coming in with their catch in the evenings too.
We are planning a bit of a longer adventure up the east coast of the island up Discovery Passage up to Telegraph and the surrounding inlets etc this year too. I've been up that way a few times over the years and love it up there so much. Great fishing up that way too. And so many whales up there in the summer. So we will also be looking at more accommodations options up that way and overnight bay mooring etc. I will post my findings on here too for those accommodation possibility. If anyone else has any suggestions please post them here too.

Hey CD, not the same guy. Maybe he is my brother from another mother. (If he's a real nice guy)

lol seems to be there's a few Oly's in the sports fishing industry.

Very happy to bring back some great memories for you Rayvon. I could definitely see the garbage and water being an issue. Especially in the hot weather for just drinking alone. Then there's washing dishes, washing up the people on the boat, etc..I have a storage tank under my sink that is filled from the outside of the walk rail but it doesn't last long that's for sure. I still pack sacks of water and flats of bottled water and it goes very fast.
When I go on the longer trips this summer with my family I have to make much more careful plans logistically lol cause there's my wife and my two teen daughters. You know how women can be with needing their showers and needing more things than us guys do to stay content lol. So we will be taking a lot of time and effort in to planning stops along the way for those certain needs. I love Telegraph Cove for those reasons too. They have everything there needed for a stop in for a night etc for those things and fuel etc..Then we adventure out from there up the inlets etc.
Couple of my priorities before our longer trips this season will be the better cuddy cushions and a custom made canvas cover for the back fish deck so my daughters can sleep in there during overnight anchored moorings.

Sounds like you have a couple of great trips planned exploring the East coast of the island this summer. How long of a trip are you planning when you travel up there? What would you consider a comfortable cruising range with your current outfit? I know a lot depends on weather and such. When the girls sleep on the outside deck, do you have a mattress or a couple of cots that they use?

I would love to explore the island that way, maybe one day.
