Outboard bracket

Hi All, I’m looking to replace my older 115 hp outboard with something a bit newer, shopping in the used market it is a lot easier to find outboards with XL (25”) leg then a L (20”) that my boat needs, has anybody put a bracket on to be able to use a 25” on a 20” transom with any success??

Thanks
Rod

I think you would need to re-do your transom as your current top engine mount holes would become your lowers. Installing a pod or bracket may be easier

You just need a piece of aluminum formed and to fill your old holes with thickened epoxy. Not a big deal. (Assuming this is a factory outboard boat)

Have a friend who had his transom on his older campion 188 raised at canoe cove manufacturing to accept a new engine

Maybe talk to a shop to see if you can get the extra 5" out of a jack plate. The nice thing about the jack plate is that you get to fine tune the mounting height without re-mounting the engine.

Was looking into Jack plates. Seems like the way to go.
Thx

Here's mine. The big plate is 1/4" aluminum, adhered with all of the sika in the world. Then I welded on an 3/16" L-shape to sandwich the transom. It had gussets inside to stop it from collapsing when the outboard is bolted on. The deal on the 25" leg was too good to pass up, and I like that it keeps the cowling out of the water in the waves.

Wow, that looks like a bomber set up, if I have to raise the transom ill circle back for some info. Thx

I did the jack plate route. Got it online from Bob's Machine Shop. Good quality and fit.
I should clarify that my transom is 20" and the used Etec I bought has a 25" leg. Ended up adjusting the plate as high as it would go (6") to bring the cav plate up to the surface on plane.

How much further behind the boat did it move the outboard?
