Sculpin in the flesh...sitting a little lower in the water due to weight of all the modifications!

After all the good reports had to get out off thrasher this morning, one nice 18 lb right off the bat, took quite a while to find the next keeper 15, lots of shakers in between, good day on the water.

Thanks DoF and Seafever. Ill go grab a few of those.

S/Joe.......the G26LBD North Pacific hoochy he referred to is the original T-Rex......there's a picture of it on PacNet's online hoochy color chart.

Fished off whale bone and entrance today. Picked up a 12 pound white on a glo chovy and lost a bigger sleeper one later on to the down rigger. Lost fish played like a small under size and as my wife reeled it up to the surface I noticed it was a high teens fish. Fish came to life at the surface and shot into the rigger cable and it was gone. Had non stop action on fat undersized but the weeds in whale bone were savage so that's when we moved to entrance. We had non stop coho action between entrance and snake. Had several triples and limited out on good sized hatchery coho. Great afternoon of fishing.

Nice ones, you guys!

Yup. Two nights in a row even :p:D lol! I have to make up for lost time buddy.

It was a little choppy this evening to start.

Bart taking care of a few shakers. He landed an 8 lber later.

Degree of Freedom sneaking up on us in the background.

Dan and I playing camera tag lol.

I think Nanaimo has some of the nicest sunsets going.

Just about to pull the plug when the captain got to play one. It was a white and will be hitting the smoker on Sunday.

Another nice evening out on the water with friends. Life is good!

Cheers,
Sculpin

Making up for lost time i see....;)

Good to see!! The boat looks great and seems to still be fishy

Great reports and fish Todd. Sounds like I should be putting the boots to myself for sitting at home this weekend!!

Thanks for the update on the steady supply of hos comin in murph...

Anyone got reports from today? Looked lumpy this morning. I couldn't make it out today as much as I wanted to. Going to give it a whirl a couple times in the evening this week.

fished solo from 4:45 to 8:00 am...absolute gong show on my boat fishing in a very strong NW. Farmed 6 solid keepers, including a 15 and 20 right at the net. Was running around doing the firedrill for 2 solid hours with double headers of shakers and coho with the 6 solid fish mixed in. If I had a blind, one armed deckhand we would've been done by 6:15.
80-100' down in 300' of water right off Neck Point. End result was a very stinky skunk...
T-Rex...that goes without saying if you've ever read one of my reports :)

Jeeezus DOF. That sounds like one hell of a morning. I've already tied up a few new Trex's since your last post (I love that hootchie and use it a lot on the WCVI). Thanks for the report. Hopefully heading out tomorrow night.

ya...it was a blast! Would've been nice to give a couple of them a boat ride, but no big deal. Felt like I'd just finished a marathon when I got in (just guessing what that would feel like, as I couldn't even walk 26 miles...)

Boo to the regular suspects....the Savant Jake 45 was a killer off Nanaimo...pretty soon I am going to toss out a zuker! Lol good job guys....

Green with envy on this side of the pond

Wow sounds like a good morning minus the wind and the hook spitters..tough fishing in the wind by yourself, that how i lost my new scotty landing net first time out this year. Seems like alot of the fish are being taken in closer off neck point these days.

I find it easier to gaff them when fishing solo than trying to use a net. Give them a sharp whack with the back side away from the hook right between the eyes and they stop fast....and then gaff them right thru the gills or head and fling 'em into the fish box. Just like a commie!

I know 2 guides in Tofino that don't even own nets.

good tip! the main problem i was having was all the hits were happening on the into the wind tack and the boat kept spinning on me as I f'd around with the fish...then the second rod/rigger would interfere with landing the fish. That and trying to steer to avoid the above problem created slack in the line a couple times.

Yeah that sounds like a lot of work. The big downfall of solo fishing in the wind

Hey DOF,
Is the middle one of this pic the one your using?

What length of leader are you running?

This ones for the Fog Ducker. Are these the ones you were after earlier Felix? (the one on the right).

That's them. I typically tie octopus hoochies with 40-42" leader. That was what to original inventor recommended and it seems to work for me...can't remember his name right now.
