Mexico Fishing Trips

Given how many guys spend some time in Mexico each year, I thought we could have a thread for fishing shots and stories from down south.

I was out with two of my boys in Banderas Bay in Puerto Vallarta and managed to scare up 6 Cravelle...one lost right at the boat and 5 in the tank. Any day on the water is a great day but especially satisfying when you can spend it with your kids!

Great thread!
I was just in mazatlan with the family and went out for a half day bottom fishing for the first time. I usually go offshore. I went with the bebi fleet and they were great to deal with! Service was second to none and the guide was hard working.
I was on a 26ft panga. The boat had a small hand held GPS and fish finder. The guide had a crazy Mexican anchor and would pull with a Scotsman just like us Hali guys. The Giude would pull up and move a lot to get us on his spots with the winds changing thru the day. Didn't seem to be much current. We fished with live shrimp and a 5oz weight. The rods and reels were good , a little overkill , but hey never know what you might find.

SFBC - I've fished in Banderas Bay a few times and those things fight like crazy, but I think the fish species you caught are Jack Crevalle's. The only reason I know this, because when I fished there we caught the same thing and the guide told me it was a Yellowfin! I bragged to my uncle (a Vallarta regular), and showed him the GoPro video. He blew me up over my species ID skills! haha

Actually those are Jack Crevalle aka Toro to Mexicans-a Yellowtail is a different much tastier animal.

The confusion comes because Mexicans will use the same term 'Jurel' (which equates Jack) for both 'Seriola lalandi' or California Yellowtail/Yellowtail Amberjack and 'Caranx caninus' or Jack Crevalle.

The tasty Hamachi we all eat in local Sushi bars is a kind of Yellowtail from Japan.

Was just down in the PV area with family and friends. Stayed near Punta Mita, had a blast. Stayed away from PV for the most part and travelled up the coast and found some super cool beaches and off the grid areas

My kind of Mexico.

Fished with Lora from Fortuna Sportsfishing, great guy, great operation, had us on fish all day, highly recommend him. I'm booked for October for some offshore tuna.

Here is a couple from our Pescadero trip in November. Launching pangas off the beach into the surf.

So much fun and man did my boy love it.

Also a great place to teach your 13 year old daughter to drive.

Awesome thread and photos! These aren't from 201y but they help highlight how stunning these fish are when they first come out of the water.

I'm surprised you didn't post that Swordfish, bro

The biggest bummer of that EPIC day Shaun is I ended up with no good photos. Some blurry shots in the dark when we got back that night, that's it.

But OH the memories!

You must have a few from down there!

Found some more, Bear Cove!

That was quite the tuna bite that the Go Deep put us on in the morning before hooking up that swordfish!

This was from the best day i've ever had in Mexico with my brother on his first day ever fishing in Cabo.

The Dream Weaver with Capt. Ramon and all star mate Jaime put us on 12 Striped marlin in 1 day just before Christmas 2012. We couldn't lift our arms up that night, lol.

Last year went to Cabo in December and did pretty well on Dorado, after cleaning($$$$) we cut into dinner pieces and froze at Riu, that was excellent for cerviche and amazing for fish and chips and cioppino, only cost 35$ usa to bring back

thoughts on eating marlin?
it was just ok in ceviche. guides take it to sell to locals. cheap protein.

Headed to Puerto Vallarta area Nov 16-25 any suggestions of what to check out or outfits that would take 3 guys for a 1/2 or full day trip ( depends on price and what the the others want to do )

I have never done a guided trip in Mexico but I assume the guide keeps all the fish and sells it ? What are the chances of keeping some for a meal or bringing some home frozen ?
