I have had a set installed in my boat since Aug 06 and one of them has went..(swapped them around today and it IS the speaker)
So I will be looking for a new pair anyone have good luck with different brands?

I have soaked my sony marine 5 1/4 speakers and they seem to hold up pretty well. I would not recommend buying an in house set of speakers. Just like with car audio, you are always better off to purchase a reputable brand, you definetley get what you pay for.

can't help you with this, but stick with name brands, west marine looks pretty good (supply/brand carrying wise) off there website, kenwood makes very good audio products (from car experience) bose is good, clarion, jensen, sony isnt the best for these products... (again from car audio perspective)

today after school i actually just hooked up twin 15'' subs in my car, with a 2600watt amp, i fired it up and the heads of the plastic screws holding my liscence plate on snapped off [:0] it POUNDSSSS lol, for sho only ;) and the box wouldn't fit in the trunk so we sledge hammered the sheet metal down to make room [:p]

Just installed a pair of Infinity 602M 6 & 1/2 in marine speakers in my boat, great sound (best reviews I could find for the money, JL speakers higly rated but expensive). Purchased on-line through a US on-line marine electronics outlet for approx $110/pr.

Got a Payne marine cd/mp3/marine radio delivered from Cabellas for 139.00 canadian. It took about 10 days for delivery. Came comlete with speakers , waterproof cover/and all wiring labeled so even I could install it.:)

I know lots of guys who run clarion marine.... Haven't really heard anything bad...Try Nikka if you are in the Lower Mainland or maybe Trotac if you are on the Island? Just a thought??!!

Islandgirl, i have tried several types of good automotive and they don't last in wet environments... the marine type speakers all sound real tinny to me. the best I have found are made by dc gold here is their website..

http://www.dcgoldaudio.com/

I bought the 9 and 1/2 drivers for the front of the boat and the 6 x 9 for the side boards. they are not water resistant THEY ARE WATERPROOF. AND THEY CARRY A GREAT WARRANTY. they make speakers for offshore style boats and they are great you can hear them on our video on youtube.com look for 425vance or salmon fishing in canada. I got the reference series for my boat but any thing they make is great. you can order them in black or white. they will even let test them with a 100% satisfaction. good luck

I used the calrion speakers as well but just put in a cheap sony normal car deck that was on a door crasher sale for all of 49 bucks thing sounds great but I put it where salt water will never get at it 3 years now still good.
if it goes poof one day so im out 50 bucks ill just go and get another one so far that 20 bucks a year for tunes not bad better than spending 400 on a marine one but if you have to put it any where that water, sun and elements can get at it your better of with a marine one.

I picked up a pair of new Boss speakers from Ebay $45 and very happy with them.

I built a steam room in my basement and bought all my supplies from a steam room supplier including the speakers. My speakers are Bose marine speakers and have performed excellently in a hot steamy environment for the past two years. Did I mention the room also has a shower?

I cant think of a tougher environment. If you go with Bose, you won't be dissapointed.
