There's a lot to be said for following your passions, and it's NEVER too late to start chasing them. Ten years ago I turned down a big-$$$-big status job to go off on my own and start my own business. First couple of years it was definitely hand to mouth, trying to build up street cred. and scraping together a customer base (although I sure got my fishing licks in while doing the scraping...)
Now I get a bit of respect from people in my industry, people call me rather then me having to calling them, and I'm making at least as good a living as I was when doing the corporate thing (and back then, MAYBE getting to fish on weekends)
So last October I was up on the Skeena chasing steel and just after hooking and fighting a really nice fish, a customer called me and ordered 8 containers of squid. I sat down on a rock, closed the deal, then stepped back into the water and hooked another fish.
I almost fainted from joy realizing how freaking fortunate I was, and how LUCKY I was to have had the sense to turn down that job 10 years ago, turn my back on money and status and a corner office, and go off on my own.
No regrets, other then not having busted that kind of move thirty years ago instead of ten...
