How to keep a boat in Vancouver, on a budget

I'm stuck in Vancouver for a few years, and want to ship a 23' Grady White up here from the east coast. I live in an apartment in the city with no garage or driveway to keep it. The marinas around here want $300/month or so to keep it in the water, so I'm thinking I'd prefer to store it on land. Does anyone have any ideas of where I could keep a 23' boat in a secure gated area? I'll probably keep it in the marina for the 3 summer months, and for the rest of the year keep it on land and just tow it in when needed. Any advice on secure, relatively cheaper, land storage spots? Thanks in advance!

I met a guy the other day who's got a commercial fishing license on his small sportfisher boat, and he pays $50/month for a $300/mo spot.

You will have a tough time finding a cheap spot to store a boat. I did some research into this issue and found Bridgeview Marine on River Road in Delta had one of the more reasonable possibilities. They have dry land covered storage for boats up to 25' for $1525.00 per year plus tax. That's what the price was recently anyway. With that they will launch it and store it for you up to 3 times per month. That works out to roughly $150 per month which is pretty good considering you get covered storage. They are a bit up the river though. Check things out for yourself, you might be in for a shock unless you can find yourself some deal like the guy you met

Burrard Civic Marina in False Creek under the Burrard Bridge. Hands down your best option. Land storage. Get yur name on the list.

Thanks for the tips guys. FYI the Civic Marina has a waiting list going back to 2009 the office told me. But the Lions looks great. Thanks Felix.

No prob ,

the only issue i had there , was , if stored outside , you get a film of yellow powder from the huge pile of sulfur , thinks thats what it is ,
i stored indoor for 2 years at around $300/month , outside was half that i think ,
use a cover if ya can is all , great location though !!

I used to store my 22'boat on trailer in a fenced area out in Delta.
I think it was $1.00/foot for the LOA including trailer tongue, which was 30ft @ $30/mth but I think I remember I had to pay 6 months at a time.
It was gated, each person got their own key. Probably 8-10 boats there, along with motorhomes, buses, trucks.

Had to drive out to pick it up everytime I wanted to drop it in, but it was "budget".

if you are "stuck" in Vancouver, then why would you only fish 3 months of the year with a boat like that? find a safe private yard and trailer it more often and get fishing. you're not in Kansas or toronto anymore. you can fish 12 months of the year!

To be honest boats are a lot of fun and yes the saying is true blow another thousand. My opinion would be unless you are going to log a ton of hours each year your better to rent a boat or go on charters when you want to fish. By the time you pay for the boat, perhaps insurance, ongoing maintenance, potential engine problems ( repowering one day ), moorage, a big vehicle to pull it, trailer insurance, storage or moorage and then fuel costs it makes for a very expensive hobby when your in a boat of that size. Many of these extra costs could be passed on if you had a yard, shop and if your a handy man. I think I lost on every boat other than a 12 foot aluminum with a 9.9 lol! Just some things to keep in mind for whats it's worth.
