Help Regarding Leg Oil Around Drive Shaft Seal

Just doing water pump preventive maintenance on my 2017 Suzuki 140A and noticed a small amount of leg oil around the drive shaft seal under the water pump plate. The seal visually looks to be in good shape the spring isn't rusted. When I grab the end of the long end of drive shaft there's a small amount of play which I understand to be normal and I can see some air/fluid burping out around the seal when I move around the drive shaft.
Anyone experience this before?
Wondering if this is normal for the seal when the drive shaft is not held firmly in place or is this a definite sign of a failing seal. No signs of additional fluid inside casing.

Yes I've been in contact with Maple marine and they were good enough to offer to do a compression test on the leg for me for free actually as I have had some other work done by them. Waiting to hear back from them.
Seems really odd that it's only a 2017 and this would be gone. No signs of any corrosion or anything.
Thank you for your reply.

Yeah pressurizing the gear case with air and spraying some soapy water on the seal will let you know if the seal is good or not.
