Hardy Reports

Pulled 2 fish out of Duval today, mid teens, didnt wonder out...but heading out again next thursday-saturday, going to adventure a bit more...will get pics up next week when iam holding a tyee.

Made a day trip to Hardy yesterday. Beautiful flat calm all day, but very foggy.

It was our first time there so we had to figure everything out, but still did pretty good.

Started at Duval at 7am. Saw several fish caught by boats fishing 100-130 ft of water, so we copied them and found a teener at 90ft. The ebbing tide brought a crazy amount weeds and logs so we ran to the South East end of the Gordon Islands. Only coho there for us.

Next we ran out further to Castle Pt. Only one other boat there. Their net was out a few times. We manage a hard fighter in the low 20s. Taken at 115ft in 130ft of water. Coho chasing bait there again. When it was my turn steering the boat I'd cast and retrieve a buzz bomb out for a little extra action.

Back to Duval for a few last passes before ending the day. Found 2 more Chinook (a low 20s and a mid-teens at 80' in 120').

All Chinook were caught on anchovies.

A couple boats seemed busier than us...so there must some better secrets out there worth digging for... All in all we had a great day tho with at least some kind of action the whole day.

Whoa..what are the chances hey.. two fish 63-65lbs in two days..i thought maybe he was confused because it is called north island lodge.. NICE!

I know of a 3rd , a 66lb caught and killed by self guided group, and 7 over 50lbs that came in over 2 day period up in QSI, and its great to see the lodges pushing their guest's to release these beauties.

For Sure Nice to see people releasing big fish like that to spawn, I told myself long ago i would release anything of 40 lbs.. just have to catch one first :P If you can afford to go fishing at a big fancy lodge like that chances are you can afford groceries too, take home a couple 20's leave the big fish to spawn..

Hows Hardy doing fellas? Going to be into hour 9 of a 13 hour trip when I'm passing through the Port Hardy area tomorrow (wed). I've heard Coho is thick and it would be great to fish (pray) for a quick hatchery for dinner. Can anyone confirm reports? I have my choice of spots in between Hardy and Cape Caution so theres lots of water to cover. Any help would be great, as I have only boated through Hardy, never fished! Post or PM.

Cheers.

I believe you are headed up to Rivers correct? If you are following the mainland I would hit the Jeanette Light. Lots of fish there, not out of your way if you are heading up that side.

I am heading that way Sunday afternoon for four days, hoping the fish gods will be watching over me.

Safe travels

Just back from 1 week at hardy. Slow fishing inside for springs, lots of wild coho released, got 2 of them lottery fish (hatchery coho) after July 31. Only 1 pink :) and our limit of small hali's. Fished all the usual spots. Lots of fog, that radar sure came in handy! Saw lots of sockeye jumping, but not biting, they are headed this way they travel about 20 miles a day I was told, doesn't look like there will be an opening though...

I have not been on here for a while I've been fishing but here's a report .

Back after 35 days of having my motor home and boat parked up there went up and down twice but TONS of fish. Released Hali's to 90lbs and kept lots just legal with friends and family plus lots of small ones . Some days springs were easy but when you didn't wana run you had to work harder but there was still tons of hookups boated as many springs as people lost on my boat lotsa springs to 33lbs . Tons of coho but not many hatchery's.loads of snapper to 15lbs and lings to 40lbs and lots of quil backs. Knowing where to fish and what to use made a huge difference as alot of people where I was were not catching alot. Wish I can go back but can't well maybe for a few days later this month maybe. Tons and tons of fog

I have some sweet under water footage from my go pro Hali fishing but have no clue to get it on here but I will try in the next few weeks as I'm swamped making gear .

Cheers all

So what's the drill at Port Hardy?

Get up early, motor to outside of the Bay, turn NW, run for 10 miles to a.) get some separation from the crowd b.) get to some productive areas around Hope Is. and c.) fish till you get blow in by the prevailing winds?

Just wondered, thanks
