Halibut Seminar

All the lastest info sounds great profisher:). I wouldn't let anyone film the event without permission from yourself, other speakers, and sponsors. You have gone through all this work to put this event on for a great cause and it would be a shame to see it plastered all over face book and youtube for everyone to see for free. This is about raising money for a great cause. IMHO video should be banned unless authorized by the organizers. I few still shots should do no harm however.

Buy some tickets folks and attend a seminar for a great cause. Like minded folks getting together to learn and give something back:cool:.

Agree with Sculpin. Rollie, it would be a shame if it ended up getting passed around the internet without any benefit for the center. I think the only way would be to make CD's or DVD's and sell them to anyone interested.

That idea was killed when I thought about the hours I might end up sitting feeding a couple hundred DVD's into my burner. Too much time and a worn out burner.

Bender .... have a look at the last post on page 8. I got a call from Outfitters and they had a run on tickets this afternoon after I was there and they ran out of tickets by 4:30. I will be down there first thing in the morning to get more to them. Just wondering if the Times Colonist had a story this week as ticket sales jumped today, esp at Outfitters.

150 tickets sold

hey Rollie, just bought myself up to speed on this thread - couple things. 1. The director of sales/promotions at the Sheraton is on our derby committee and if you can get me an idea of how many rooms that may be booked, I may be able to get special block pricing for them. 2. Have you looked into a way to do an online, non copy streaming of the event instead of just record and burn to dvd? Use paypal for payment and away you go. Has to be capability like that online and then the worst you'd get is someone buying it and have his buddies hovering around the computer. Charge extra and its no big deal? Just a thought!

I'm not sure how many would be booking a room. There are a good number of people coming from out of town. I've sold 25 tickets that were mailed out. I have no way of finding out unless those people post here. I haven't looked into an online stream. I think I'm going to concentrate on doing the best job I can for those attending in person. We could do this again next year for those who miss this one.

k...I can ask here about any possibilities...I know its just alot easier if you can go to them and say, we have a group wanting 10 rooms...what can you do for us!

There is post back a bit here where I listed the prices they gave me for the rooms. I think it was 10% less than business. (I believe) I just got off the phone with the manager of the West Coast Tap House. He will be getting back to me by email later. He is going to put together some breakfast and dinner specials for anyone attending. I'll post those as soon as I know what they are. 165 tickets sold...wow they are going like hot cakes now..about 30 sold since yesterday!!!

Okay, at the risk of getting an earful - which I have become somewhat immune to at this stage of my life - with a house of 200 or so, would it not be prudent to have Chris Bos do a brief update/exchange on the us vs. DFO halibut fracas? I know several of the guys at the salmon-seminar were not even aware of the SFAB, let alone what it's purpose was.

Just a thought.

Terry, Chris was asked if he would do the MC duties but he couldn't commit as he wasn't sure he wouldn't be down south. I left him a voice mail awhile back and didn't hear back so I'm assuming he is out of town. Martin Paish is also just as involved with everything as Chris and is able to provide a good presentation in front of a large crowd. Martin will have a few minutes to talk about any halibut news if there is any. Come early because the halibut speakers will start at noon sharp without exception as we have to be done by 4pm to allow set up for another function in the ballroom. If there is some halibut news Martin will go over that with those who are there starting at 11:45. We have the room for setup at 11am and we will allow ticket holders in starting at 11:15.

If anyone coming to the seminar and wants to get out fishing, I will throw myself and boat into the hat, weather permitting. A great way to connect with fellow fishermen.

I just realized that the PSF dinner is the same evening. Anyone going to the dinner after the seminar?

My wife and I will probably be going. We haven't picked up the tickets yet and I see Optimist has just posted a thread to go see Ward at Island Outfitters to purchase a ticket.
I also see if you purchase a group of 8 tickets (a table) there is a discount but I don't know of eight others planning on going.

It a good cause to contribute too.

Hey Rollie, heard back from Sheraton - if you get guys looking for rooms, tell them to reference the halibut seminar (if there are any that have booked, tell them to call back and mention that as well).  If you can get 10 out of towners for it, they will give you a rate of $89/night....decent saving.  I'll leave it to you to send a note out to the out of towners not picked up here if you want and then others tracking this board can look into it as well.

I am coming from the mainland and making it a quick day trip most likely. Into town for the seminar and that's about it. Maybe a meal in between somewhere.

If anyone wants to Co-Pilot, PM and we can split costs of transport. Small Sedan so the ferry is like $70 each way.

Departing from Mission so I'm happy to haul someone along so long as you are in between point A and B.

That is about $20.00 cheaper than what I was quoted for those attending the seminar. You must have some good friends there. Maybe you should get the dinner deal too!!! I'm still waiting to hear what they are going to offer those of us who head over to the pub afterwards. Most people have giving me a phone number over an email address so they will have to hear about the room rate through here. An email would have been easy to send out, phoning not so much. I haven't been around the ticket venues for a few days but we must be over 175 tickets sold.

I have consulted with people I know and they are dedicating the purchase of 10 tickets - total $350.

Profisher please dedicate the ten tickets to a give away draw of some kind that you decide will best suite the event. Some kind of predraw deal...you figure it out.

None the less you now have ten ticket less to sell.

DHA.

You know where I am, contact me as the money is waiting for you. :)
