Halibut fishing spots, Sidney

Do you guys think the east side of Coal island would be a good halibut fishing spot (about 1/4 of the way to Imrie)? It looks like there is a drop off to about 180 feet there. We're planning to fish the Sidney channel as recommend by a bunch of other people in my other thread, but I was scanning the map, and thought this could be a good spot to check out. What do you guys think? Thanks all.

Not familiar with the area but it appears your outside of the RCA (closed area) so give er a try deffinetly some fishy looking spots.

There are lots of closed areas around Sidney for fishing and closed times for prawns so pay close attention to the regulations before you fish.

I looked at this map below and it appears that only the west side of Coal Island is a RCA. Im completely unfamiliar with the regs are learning as we go, but it looks like the east side of Coal Island is fair game, as well as the Sidney Channel and the northwest part of Coal Island (another deep area I found on the map). Anyone know if the east side of Coal Island would be a good spot? It looks like it drops to 30 fathoms there. Thanks.

If you head a little further south, theres some good spots between Zero rock and Darcy island.
Check your chart for gravel humps and anchor up on the backside with your bow into the tide.

that's the spot. there's some pillars, lots of gravel bottom, the slowest moving currents and wind around victoria, and even a few fish near there

Zero has a marker and little Zero is slightly east and semi submerged, depending on the tides

Thanks for the help guys. Im really looking forward to our trip. I hope we get something! Would Zero Rock also be a good spot to fish for winter springs?

no. drop your crab traps inside sidney spit, troll salmon through sidney channel on your way down, then fish anywhere on the Haro Strait gravel, drifting or anchored from Darcy to Little zero heading towards Discovery Island

that wasn't very clear. haro is for hali, not salmon
