Having a place on Mayne, I thought I would respond to this ....
The pub in Miner's Bay is the Springwater Lodge. The food is solid pub fare (not awesome, but not bad), but the views from the deck, looking at Galiano, watching ferries roll by, typically seeing some bald eagles around, is quite awesome. They have a dinner menu too, but I tend to stick to the pub menu. It is right at the government dock, but there isn't often a ton of space to dock there. There is gas available at the dock as well (quite a challenge to find in the Gulf Islands), and if you need some bevvies or snacks for the rest of the ride, the Trading Post is right across the road from the Springwater. And yes, I believe it is still for sale. One little tidbit about it too is that it is one of BC's oldest pubs still in operation. There is also a new pub across the road (though not right on the water) from the Springwater, but I haven't been there to eat yet.
It is called Miner's Bay because it was a waypoint on the way north during the gold rush days. Also, rumour has it that many of the points on the Island have women's names (Helen Pt., Edith Pt, Laura Pt) because there were, ummmm, services available to lonely men in the midst of that long journey. Can't confirm or deny that rumour however ...
The pub on the bluff that Pippen is referring to was the Mayne Inn in Bennett Bay. It is no longer under that name, as the property was sold and turned into time share cabins (don't get me started on that fiasco), but I believe the pub has now re-opened. There is a dock for use of the people going to the property or pub, but is not available for public use. I have not been there since it was turned into time share (the way the zoning for that project was approved rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, me included), so I can't comment on the food, etc. The view over Bennett Bay and Georgeson Island is quite amazing though.
The artwork is done by a guy named Peter who is still on the Island (it's mostly molded sculptures and 3D pictures of sorts, and really quite cool), and he also done a couple of children's books too. He now operates a restaurant on the island, not on the waterfront, and has his artwork on display as well as a really good fresh & local approach to food.
http://wildfennel.foodpages.ca/ The island does not have a taxi service, so getting there from Miner's Bay might be a bit challenging, but locals are usually willing to pick up hitchhiker's, or it is only about 1/2hr walk from Miner's Bay as well.
The lighthouse pub in Lyall Harbour on Saturna has similar food and views to the Springwater, but may not be worth the extra distance if you plan on going to the pub and not the winery. The winery has a restaurant, though its hours of operation are all over the map.
All in all, I would suggest the Springwater for ease of access and view, the Wild Fennel for excellent food and a funky atmosphere.
I'd be happy to share more info on Mayne if you are interested.
