No personal experience with monkeys themselves.Never seen one puke. But the flasher is kinda gold/orange/red depending on the angle.I use it in combination with funky chicken when nothing is biting.Seems the change to something bright like that maybe kicks things up and inspires a bite.Has worked good for me fishing cowichan springs when no one else is getting bites.

scotty, Here is a link for a picture of the spoon. We had great luck with it in Uculett and Bamfield the last 3 years it out fished other lures and bait. It it only seemed to work close to shore? My wife caught a 43# two years ago using it. http://www.attheoak.com/spoons/FunkyChicken.jpg:)

Joe,I notice you change to a treble.Obviously it hasn't effected the action.Do you just use a split ring?

Wow!
You guys know your stuff (or you're all secretly tackle salesman - luckily still some room on the Visa).

A big thanks for your generosity in sharing the information.

I hope to see you on the water, and perhaps be able to contribute here when I actually know something.

"CAUTION Watch out or you'll be like me 2 of the largest tackle boxes over flowing and still buying."

Extra Caution: Make sure to wear a good lifejacket (or find a bigger boat) when you take a few old-time fishing buddies out for a day on the water because all the gear they bring may sink your boat!

PS: I like those new UV flashers but will need to retire some old ones or get a bigger box.

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

I've got some tackle(still in pkg) that I look at and think 'What was I thinking?'

I'm also a huge believer in the funky chicken, I remember when I first bought it I wondered if it would catch fish. Today its probobly the favorite spoon in my box. Lots of fish up to 45 pounds caught on it.

TT out

have you also swapped it to a treble?

Great, now I have to get a Funky Chicken spoon too.
What about a Funky Chicken flasher? :)

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

How embarassing will it be, now I have to walk in to a store and ask for a "Funky Chicken", a "Cop Car" and something in "Monkey Puke".

You guys aren't just BS'ing the newbie are you?
If you are, you've done it well, congrats! I'm off to the store.

Is there preferred length for spoons, 3 1/2", 5". etc.?

I can certainly vouch for the productivity of monkey puke flashers...under certain conditions. Namely when the water is murky. Often in this case I'll team it with an orangy/shrimpy looking hootchie and it can prove a veeery deadly pattern for chinooks. In clear water havent had much luck, but havent tried it as much either. Seems to work particulary well on staging fish (in my case alberni inlet)

couple other points id like to add

- clear water or near shore fish(usually big migratory ones) its real tough to beat an anchovy and flasher (or put plug if your into that). make sure to learn your rolls though.

- if you plan on spending time offshore, get a good assortment of tomic plugs, 191, 602, 500, 600, 494 are good colours for tomics. i like the 7 inch when pilchards are around, troll fast to cover ground. nice not to have to use a flasher either.

- as ME mentioned before, the pink squirt will catch all species, but for chinook/coho try it only when theres shrimp hatches, or when they are staging before going up rivers.

- for flashers heres what i like- plain green/silver for anything shallow and clear water, sometimes using the chartreuse trim just to change things up. also good is the green trimmed coho special in this situation. for deep go with glow in whatever trim you like (over 100 or so feet usually). sometimes in unique conditions you bring out the goldy/brassy coloured stuff. theres also some reds/blacks that work well for socks or chums

-HOOK SHARPENER (and use it often), cant stress that enough

- if theres needlefish around, a variety of things will work. however make sure its dark coloured. i like j-79 hootchies, army truck, or some blackish type patterns with a clear or cream belly. anchovies also do a somewhat reasonable imitation.

- lastly STAY UP TO DATE ON THE REGS! i hate seeing chowders out there poaching fish, and then giving the old "oh sorry i didnt know", which is a BS excuse.

Knuckle buster,

I use the single hook usually due to that is what they are set up with and they don't let us use the trebles in the States. I use the Red hot shot fasher and it seem to work realy well. Someone asked on the size of the lure and as always try to match the size of bait the fish are eating. We usually gut the first keeper and see what he has been eating and try to match that. We tend to use the bigger ones for the springers 5 inch. They now have a 6 inch one that we are going to try this year.

Joe

what size , i`ve always liked the 4inch . 3.5inch suck i think . what about you guys regarding coyote spoons funky chicken ect

tight lines

We use the 6 inch ones that are kind of rectagular(comerial) and the 6 inch candian wonders last year and the did work great on the springs and the blue dot. I don't even know if the Canidan wonder make a 6 inch anymore. The ones I have purchased have been at garage sales.
