G. Loomis GCX Mooching?

Wondering what others think of these rods for durability etc. I bought 2 of them as my first down rigger/mooching rods. They are nice but I have have various issues with them from pulling of eyelets with transition from mono to braid and them bending back (likely a bit of my fault for the knots). I broke one about half way up fighting a fish last year and sent it away for warranty. As it looks months I ended up getting a 3rd to have a spare. This year I have been out 3 times and sure enough fighting a salmon I heard a pop and the rod snapped in half right above the handle. Are these things that fragile as I am new to salmon fishing but have fly fished and spin casted for years and don't remember ever breaking a rod in half other.. Thinking of switching brands as by the time I get this one back from warranty I may be out of rods.

If they are a high carbon blank they can bruise and break easily from rough handling like knocks and drops etc.

Ive never owned your rods but I have had 2 different carbon rods simply explode after using them for down rigging. Seemed to me they weakened from the constant stain of being flexed on the Downrigger for hours on end.

The rods your mentioned are they ment specifically for mooching? I got that impression when I as looking at them in the store. It was my immediate thought they would break if used for down rigging. Nice rods though.

I’ve run these for the last 4 years or so and before that have never broken a rod, I’ve had these break on me twice now. I like to think I take extra care of my gear so was surprised it happened twice. Big thanks to the guys at PNT as they have always helped me out with the warranty.

I love my G. Loomis salmon rods but had one issue with them. The knob on the butt end was popping off when pulling the rod from my boat’s rod holder when a fish hit. A bit of superglue and electricians tape fixed the issue.
