The Thompson and Chilcotin river steelhead hope this new found concern is still in place when the chum fisheries take place in the fall. Of course, this is simply a reallocation to a different user group.

The numbers in the approach waters haven't been there. I've been on the water everyday this summer and it wasn't until early August that a few sockeye began to show..either on the gear or as jumpers. There were actually more pinks around than sockeye. I knew by late July that a sockeye opening wasn't happening based on JDF numbers. Just pisses me off that with low numbers all fisheries for them aren't shut down with strict enforcement. It wastes the efforts of both the commercial and rec sectors to allow a free pass to these fish so they can rebuild if FN nets just keep hammering them.

I am right in line with what you just said. If conservation is a concern then let that be the concern.

I got wind today that lower mainland FN groups actually said they have too many fish and are still wanting to fish if they can resell.

If conservation is a concern the first user group imo that should be removed from the fishery is out of country fisheries. Washington and Alaska.

The “keepers” of the land are doing there job while the DFO has no idea or chooses to not see what is happening. I’ve seen it every year a food fishery that turns into a commercial fishery and what use to only target sockeye now targeting any fish in the river. The numbers will never increase until everyone is on board!

Maybe they have advance intel. It’s been kind of a quiet year for any data. We don’t hear about river temps or discharge rates, we don’t hear about any big bar passage issues or really anything else for that matter and including why the DFO on the big year are not allowing recreational sport fishers the opportunity to put some food in their cupboard or freezer after FN’s have done the same. We eat too.
They are usually quick to blame things on climate change (warm water temps) but never own up to their own screw ups like commercial over harvesting 4 years ago.

Yup. I think they will give us a short window so that the FSC can sell their fish legally . I heard that they are issuing people tickets for buying the FSC fish.

Lots like they are saying no TAC for late run, there is TAC for Summer run but my guess its all gonna go to Natives.

There might be a bit of TAC for Summer for commercial and Rec but then it will be constrained by Late run,

Yup. Id say commercial area 29 and up river will get one day, probky a half a day. Rec might get September. Maybe.
