Fraser river sockeye

Ran out the river this morning, sockeye everywhere. Indians are still fishing even though they have their quota. What a shitshow. Indians can indefinitely fish, break the rules, Americans can fish, no commercial or sport for us. What in the actual ****. I hope this gets to the minister. I hope you get struck by a lightning bolt

Murray is a card carrying green eco socialists, she couldn't be happier that our carbon spewing boats are off the water reducing her climate crisis religion her and her associated pray to, and the fish stocks go to Orcas and FN, because they are the victims. Canada is a nation where all the productive people pay for all then non productive, you can thank Trudeau for that. We now have a DFO sanctioned FN tax free commercial fishing sector. I hope you all gave thanks for being allowed to take a $h!t on the unseeded land of of the CHICK A TICK TOK blah blah territories. nothing changes until Ottawa changes.

I hope someone posts some pictures for people to actually see the never ending program of FSC fishery. Shouldn't be hard to track the totes full of fish being doled out to the various band members either to ensure accountability. The home freezers must get full eventually.

I'll try to take some pictures of the boats out there if they are still out tonight. I was just at Garry Point and there was at least 2 boats with their nets out. Another boat heading in and one going out.

I've got reports a helluva lot bigger than that. Some of the FN boats fishing the hot spots in area 12/13 had a few 10k sets, non of which will ever be recorded as it goes straight to waiting reefers.

I’ve herd some rumours that First Nations have threatens to do actions if they left the commercial guys fish.

Wouldn't surprise. Back in 2018 that was what then Fisheries Minister said was the case with chinook and why he would not consider any openings for sporties! He said if we wanted an opening we would need to get Fraser River First Nations permission.

There are a ton of sockeye around. I think more than there was pinks last year but the political idiots want to appease a certain demographic with a stupid amount of fish... IMO... Seen it before.

Troller test fishing off the mouth of the Fraser had 550 pieces in 7 hours fishing. That's a very big number and non stop pulling fish. I had an era doing that myself, but left the industry as the writing was on the wall in the early 90's.

I have been told that they are going to allow a commercial fishery for first nations. I was also told that the reason first nations is demanding it is so they can sell their cold storage fish. Which some of these boats will be between 10000 and 20000 pieces. This is not ceremonial. This is bargaining with the law for a harvest of a commercial fishery.

I don't think there is a solution for this since our government basically has their own agenda with our tax money, first nations, and resources.

Sockeye have been a mainstay of the commercial fishery long before sporties figured out how to troll for them (copied commercial trollers) and floss them in the river. From DFO's point of view the top of the sockeye totem pole are FN food fish, closely followed by FN economic fish, followed by commercial fish, and then sport fish. With respect to sockeye, sportfisherman are at the bottom of the totem pole.
I am certainly not in agreement with the current situation but that is the cards we have been dealt. Those of us current, and ex, commercial fisherman, had to come to terms with this pecking order quite some time ago.

Has everything to do with the first nations. They are getting paid millions of dollars from the government ( tax payer ) to seine fish our sockeye. Not to mention the huge government grants we gave them this year for their licences and to pay for upgrades and new boats and gear. They gave another .25 million for food fish when they didn't need it. it was for commercial purposes. When they could have at least, at least given the sports 50 thousand fish. The people who pump billions into the economy every year. Ontop of that i could give a **** about sportfishing sockeye. It's not a sport fish. However, my take on the sport thing is that the rec sector deserves a Crack at it, because it is good for our culture and economy and provides a fun thing for people to do.
