Very sweet. Congratulations. Why the immediate swap to Sea Pros? Price vs reliability/maintsinability?
Thanks!
The SeaPros are more of a commercial motor. Built heavy duty and built to last longer than the rec motors. Also, the 225 Merc SeaPros are V8s that give more torque at lower RPM than the V6 Merc CXLs.

Right on! Thank you 🙂 Small world eh! Nice Sea Sport. Did you buy that one last year from a guy down island not far from Victoria?
Thank you.
No, I bought it from a fellow in Gold River, 17 years ago. We’ve been through a lot together lol.
I was just in to the shop to get a helm hydraulic leak looked after. It was something minor and I was out of there in a few hours. I really like those guys at APM, just wish they were a bit closer.

Ah i see right on. It looked like a SS I looked at last year that's why I asked. Ya they've treated me great there over the years. I've bought 5 boats from them and have only good things to say.

Curious what is your tow vehicle? That’s a beast now to haul down that Gold River highway.
It's a 2009 F350 6.4 diesel. I've got it chipped and tuned too. It's no problem for it. Truck is rated to tow 14,500. Even on hills in tow mode with the turbo kicked in nice it didn't drop under 110km/hr. Thats with the boat full of 560 litres of fuel too. Had the truck since new and use it for towing for work too. Very happy with it. With a 5th wheel or gooseneck the rating goes up to 24,500 tow capacity.

A”real” tow vehicle. Congrats. Nice set up.

What drove the decision to add the drum winch? Looks sick by the way! I didn’t anchor much with my aluminum but with the cuddy and cabin on my current boat we anchor out a lot more.
A few reasons. I mix my rode with chain, rope, chain, c links, etc so a drum winch can handle the different rode materials better than a windlass. I unhook from my anchor lots and leave it with a buoy to come back to. I got fond of doing that when I grew up fishing and guiding for Sturgeon and Springs lots in the Fraser and Harrison Rivers with my jet boat. With a windlass it's not as easy and quick to do as with a drum winch. Comes in handy when coming to and from beach mooring spots too when camping and when coming back to Hali/bottom fish spots for different tide changes I had quick detach c links spliced into the rode at a couple different depths for that reason. On this rode they put chain then synthetic to fit more on the drum. I've got 430 feet on the drum. Also comes in handy if you get your anchor stuck you can easily detach, reposition and pull from the opposite direction or come back to it later to get it unstuck. A drum winch also retrieves rode faster than a windlass cause a windlass retrieves at one slow speed whereas a drum retrieves faster as the drum gets fuller.

Nice. Gulf islands using a buoy or dingy to hold an anchorage can be a big no no, but on the west coast I imagine less sailboaters and yachters who “own” the ocean.

When you anchor for Hali, do you use a Scotsman and if so how do you keep it 20 feet away from the boat too? I don’t have great bow access so using the over the side anchor is the best for Hali.

I always wonder about site lines for bow mount trolling motors and drum winches but we all need to sacrifice for our vices.

Lol ya true. No Sotchman buoy when anchoring from the bow. Only when un clipping from the rode to leave and come back. It's needed when anchoring by hand off the side cause it takes the weight off the anchor/chain when the ring slides down the road when moving the boat. Not a fan of that system at all but It's the most common that's for sure. My last anchor I tack welded a slide bar with a u bolt sliding on it to enable pulling the anchor out from the other side when really stuck. Worked slick. If super stuck the tack welds would break and you'd save the whole rode and chain and just lose the anchor. Same system we used for river fishing.

The drum isn't big at all. I was a bit concerned about line of sight too but it's fine where it is on there. But will put it to the test this weekend to know fir sure.
