its amazing how you can get so much power and fuel economy from a diesel. you do need to drive it like you stole it. get the exhaust gasses flowing pushing out all the carbon from the tubes.

ok, I know this is a fishing forum but ... if you can find a pre- 1998.5 dodge cummins 12 valve engine they get the best mileage. I get close to 20 miles per gallon mixed driving and 25 plus miles on the open road. After that the engine designs were changed for emmision reductions and they just never got that mileage again. Main reason for the truck was so I could get a bigger boat :D

Blue, I got the same upgrade and people have come up to me saying the truck is leaking or something. It is supposed to flush the injectors.Do you find the trip computer to be accurate for miles per gallon?

yeah im looking for a 1998 12V 5.9L cummins turbo diesel, long box, ext cab, 4x4 5spd. great trucks!

If they had a Crew cab pre 1998 Cummins, I would still be driving one.
There is a 1993 one ton club with 200,000kms here in Black Creek for sale, decent shape for 13,000. Just broke in at that mileage.
I don't have a trip gauge on my ford. Gone to the dealer this a.m. for install of new parts, then drive the living crap out of it on the way home.:D

I understand the engines last a long time, but doesn't the rest of the truck fall apart or wear out?

its a dodge what do you expect!;) cummins can get hit 1,000,000kms. but what some people do is put the cummins in a ford. thats pritty much a really good match

I looked for a year for my dodge 1997 12v cummins and finally found one in Langley. They tend to eat automatics in the earlier trucks so I stuck to standards. Except for a weak front end due to the hugh weight the truck it is solid and gets incredible mileage. The front end is easily correctable with a few aftermarket add ons. Ford, no doubt tough truck but the dodges are still solid, Like anything its all about maintance. :)

Well $1600.00 later (actually $100.00 for the deductable warranty) and she purrs like a kitten again. Not even a ticket on the way home.[8D]
Replaced internal parts on the turbo and the EGR and down tube.
TSB came out awhile ago on the turbo, but unless you have an issue, they won't service it. Next issue it has, it gets replaced completely.
All good again. Who wants to go for pinks?
