Hello all, is there any salmon fishery perdictions for the west side of the Island?? Should the spring fishery be larger fish than 2005 ?? I think the springs in 2004 were bigger than 2005 but that is just my opinon. Also is 2006 a year of the pinks on the west side???

Greetings,

Does that mean that the east coast will see Pinks this year?(Like Campbell River, etc) I had a blast flyfishing for Pinks on the Campbell last year.

What about Coho? I heard (and saw) only bad news about Coho numbers last year. What's expected this year?

Cheers,
Alex

... "high water" is when you can fish from your car.

Alex, I believe the Campbell River area sees pinks every year not just in even or odd numbered years although somebody may correct me. I'm no authority on this, trust me. I'm new to this fishery too. And lovin it!! Beach fishing for pinks is my new addiction.

As I understand it, in even numbered years the North Coast area has the big run. Odd numbered years they migrate past South VI on the way to the Fraser. The mid to north island rivers along ECVI get them every year.

There is no even/odd pink year on the inside anymore.

Thanks for the pink update, now does anyone know the spring perdictions for 2006??

What do you mean there is no Even/Odd year for pinks on the inside? I thought there were substantially more on the Odd years in the South.

Although, I haven't caught one in quite some time.

From what i read, the pinks were overfished at the mouth of the fraser at the turn of the century on a even year and have yet to return to past levels. Thats why southern bc has alternating years for good returns. Farther up they still have good years every year.

Didn't take us long to screw up thousands of years of evolution.

Fly fished the Cluxewe for many years and the odd number years there are large amounts , even numberd years there are still fish but not in the numbers of the odd years.

The odd/even number years refers to the strength of the Fraser run. On the south coast, odd number years produce far greater returns that even number years. The Fraser River run can be upward of 10-15 million in odd number years.

From Courtenay north, there are pinks every year as the local streams, all the way to the northern tip of the island have pink runs fairly strong each each. The numbers are only in few hundred thousand, but enough to keep us sporties in the north island into pinks each year.
