Fishery Notice - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Subject: FN0289-RECREATIONAL Salmon - Chinook - Areas 11 to 20, 111, and Subareas 29-1 to 29-5 and 29-8 - Non Retention - Effective April 1, 2025

This Fishery Notice provides the recreational fishery management measures to provide protection for at-risk Fraser River Chinook stocks in Areas 11 to 20, 111, and Subareas 29-1 to 29-5 and 29-8. The measures to start the 2025 fishing season (beginning April 1, 2025) are the same measures that were in place at the beginning of last season.

Effective 00:01 hours April 1, 2025, until further notice the daily limit for Chinook Salmon is zero (0) per day.

These measures apply in the following waters:

Area 12 (excluding Subarea 12-14); Areas 13 to 20 and Subareas 29-1 to 29-5 and 29-8.

For clarity, in Areas 11 and 111, and Subarea 12-14, the daily limit of Chinook Salmon remains two (2) per day, marked or unmarked, with a minimum size of 45 cm.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Effective 00:01 hours April 1, 2025, until further notice no fishing for Chinook Salmon.

These measures apply in the following waters:

Those portions of Subareas 29-3 to 29-5 that lie east of a line from Gower Point (49 23.021'N, 123 32.166' W) near Gibsons to Shah Point on the southern tip of Valdes Island (49 01.695'N, 123 35.721'W).

--------------------------------------------------------------------

A subsequent Fishery Notice will be released detailing Chinook Salmon mark-selective fishery opportunities beginning April 1, 2025.

Variation Order: 2025-RFQ-066, 2025-RFQ-068, 2025-RCT-061 in effect.

Are they keeping area 123 opened this year?
No, it will be closed to non-retention just the same as last year despite having very high proportion of Chinook from April to June that are hatchery marked fish, and very low historic encounters of Chinook stocks of concern. IMO the time has come to amend the A123 - 127 fishery for recreational and FN's to MSF retention. If we follow the former IFMP the non-retention runs from April1 to July 14.

Would some one please help me out ? not really computer with it ! i am attempting to bring up the " D.F.O. Notice List "
don't matter where i attempt to seek all i get is " This Connection is not private " where do i go to actually bring up the Notice List ?
i used to go to that site faithfully but not lately ! what am i doing wrong ?

This is from last year's thread on this topic and it still applies.

These notices are important information, but the politics/conservation discussion that ensues needs to occur in the section of the forum designated for that purpose. Posts that fall into this realm will be removed.
