Good.. Sherwood Industries (That make Enviro)makes good stoves just as good if not better in some cases then PE. I like there inserts, and most are easy to install.

That is way too soon to shut it right down. Nope not blaze king... The newer ones are harder starting depends what year you have..Only telling you what I tested them too, and BTU output... They need at least on hour or so on high to medium high to get going close to therm equilibrium then add fuel, and turn them down.... When you do that you should see bluish/orange flames shooting down a little on glass coming from the baffle...That is the secondary gases burning, and your air wash system... The secondary gas burn are what makes it efficient..

When shut them down to soon you get smoking, and may not get secondary burn... If you clean your glass all the time your shutting it down to fast...

It should look like this..... Those top flames are what you want if your burning correctly...

Hey SV -- that's for posting the proper burning specs. We've got a family cabin on Cowichan with a Pacific insert and full wood stove in the basement. I watched the video you posted and one of the videos that also showed up was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LFPSd_KH8A -- shows you how to properly light and then continue to load the stove.

I've been doing it entirely wrong! Lighting it from the bottom, loading too much wood, loading wood the wrong way and closing off the air too soon.

Yeah secondary combustion is primarily the thing that many people don't have working right... This video is how we generally do the testing, and get cleanest burn.... Thanks for sharing. Doing what it mentions you will use less wood. You use more wood shutting it down to fast.... As the stove never gets close to thermal equilibrium, and its hard to achieve secondary burn..Basically means the temp of materials in firebox are constant. By then you would have a good base of embers... Just makes the secondary combustion more efficient.

If your doing it right when you go outside you generally should see almost nothing smoking out when you put it to low... In PE stoves there is a bluish flame you can see in rear..Those are secondary gases igniting.... Another sign of incorrect burning is if your glass is dirty. PE stoves as well as others have air wash technology...When you look you can see flames curling down throughout glass on ceramic window. That is your air wash system.

Its just what I learned over the years developing them. You also can save wood by switching to east west and north south loading based on season... I generally will only shut down to full low on and overnight burn.... Most times I run it with it between halfway and low.

BTW look what someone sent me this today. This guy designed an extruder to chop firewood. Aluminum extrusion is forced through a die, but never seen someone do it for wood damn smart...Now check this out.....
