Last year in August we heard that large spoons were working well offshore of Barkley Sound. Anybody have advise for me on what spoons work there including waht size and colors. Every area is different and I want to make sure I have an assortment of the right spoons this coming season. Also, should they be fished with flashers or all alone?

Never fished off the banks but we had some luck with a large dymara spoon in green and glow. I bet it would be dynmamite in the six inch size.

coyote spoons in the 5 and 6 inch size, i like the bad attitude, copcar, and have acouple others but not to sure the names, ones a white pearly finish works awesome, also the 5 inch tomic 602 spoon works great...

We had good luck offshore with a black/white (cop car) spoon 4 or 5" running 4' to 5' behind a flasher

Tomic Roadrunner 500 and 602 hali and springs! 6" Dummy rigged flasher or none. Seem to almost get through the top level Coho and into the Spring Zone for offshore. Inshore, Whittlestone ,Beal,Wall, etc are all hot in late August. The basic Copcar, Watermelon or green nickle and blue nickle coyote in 3.5 - 4". Leave the bait at home for offshore swakin!
Plugs are the common tool offshore again in 602 and 500.
Good luck <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Nice image, Steel. :)
I think I saw a "Funky Chicken" in that collection.

RedandWhite Monster: Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

I love the funky chickin, sometimes all i run is 4 of them lol

cheers

I thought I was the only one the used the Funky chicken? We did great with inshore Barkley the white with bright yellow on it worked pretty well too. I purchased a bunch of the 7-inch commercial spoons a few years ago they are copper and kind or rectangular they worked great at Swiftsure last year. I also have a few of the 7-inch Canadian wonders half chrome and brass. Does anyone know if they are still made?

Thanks Steelie,

I didn't even know they still made them. I have been finding them at garage sales for the past 5 or 6 years. I even picked up an 8 inch one over this weekend. On the east coast we always said big bait for big fish but out here I have caught my biggest fish on the smallest bait. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for all the replys. I'm new to this site and I've been very impressed on how much info can be found and how helpful everyone is.

Thanks for the photo Steelheadman. Looks like a lot of the same patterns I have in smaller spoons (3 1/2" & 4"). I'll need to stock up on the 5" and 6" ones. I was happy to see the Funky Chicken in the mix. It's always been one of my favorites. I'm going to remember the Pacific Net and Twine tip next time though the area. Do they have a complete tackle shop or just a good collection of spoons?

lotsa stuff, its my go to place for plugs (pretty much big plugs and big spoons work in the same colours in most instances), and their hootchie assortment is good too.
