Curious about what everyone likes in a bottom fish jig? Was think'n about trying out some swimbaits but not sure what size to order (last order of the year I hope lol) I fished shallow water with 8" curly tails on 3 oz jig heads last year and they worked decent but hopefully some pro's will chime in. I'm headed back to Ucluelet in Aug. if that helps.

From what I've found, most things work.. when a piece of copper pipe catches fish, I think the super detailed swim baits (burbot marketing saying the 2cm whisker thing on it, is a game changer) make the angler feel better more than the fish. I think it's more about presenting the bait in the right place at the right time.

Lighthouse Lure White Russian swim
Bait, 14oz. Does great. Decent weight to jig. Been having success with orange/red colours for Lings lately.
I 2nd that, anything lighthouse lures works so well. I like the Russian white personally, but they'll eat anything.

Agree that lings aren't too picky, but the top producer on our boat the past three years has been the Madame Lure Big Richard in Pilchard. We've tried pretty much every jig and pattern out there - Lighthouse Megabites, Power Grubs, Hali Hawgs, Savage Gear, Mustag Inkvader, etc. etc. etc. and this is one that always produces for us. The original one we got is still going strong after 20+ lings.

Last year I started playing around with a "light jigging" set up - a Shimano Trevala PX 6'6" Medium / Daiwa BD 4500 / 40 lb Power Pro. It was a blast catching lings up to 20+ lbs - this year my goal is to get a decent halibut on the setup. Best jig on that set up was the 140 g and 168 g Shimano Butterfly Flat-Side jig in Blue Sardine.
