Horizontal vs Vertical comes from the days of cane or greenheart rods. If they were stored "leaning" or hung horizontally they would take a "set " and have a permanent bend. Not an issue with modern materials

Question since we're talking reels and rods. Is it true you shouldn't store your rods horizontally? Only vertically? Or is this just more myth and lying by fishermen? I've got all mine (10 of) on my ceiling in the garage all pointing horizontally and have never seen as issue yet. Let the dogs out!

Cane rods matter. Some older generation fiberglas matter. newer than 1970's fiberglass and composite rods are pretty much ok. In saying that I did see a two year old rod that was stored in a shed that got quite warm inside end up looking like a banana when it was discovered by one of the customers of my previous employ. I simply store mine in a way that works for me, while babying my cane rods.

Here's a few more PEETZ. Two six inch Recorders, one is pre war. The other reel in the middle is a standard classic five inch.

Here's another , my 1st ever spinning reel, took after my dad and bought this Mitchell 4470 when the sporting good store was in Courtenay Driftwood mall in 79' has been used every yr since. I think its a perfect size for trout and buzzbombing, has nice feel to it, and works like the day I got it.

This is one of my latest PEETZ. Not very many folks know about this rare model. It was produced for a short period of time. I think that there is less than 100 produced. I picked this one up for the future PEETZ museum that I am working on for our showroom. Designed and created by the very first Non-Family PEETZ owner Bill Hooson. He moved the business to it's present day location in 1977. I met Bill in the new PEETZ shop in 1979. I was 13 years old.

Ya I know, I know...I just had to do it didn't I?! I had to toss a wrench into the conversation. Yep. Just had to.

I have the same reel along with a couple of Ambassador level winds I used for trolling deeper for trout.

An older Garcia Mitchell spinning reel model 304 my dad bought me in a pawn shop when was about 8 or 9. It was paired with the same era rod but unfortunately it didn’t survive the abuse I put it through walleye fishing on the river almost every day after school.
The old Johnson Century model 100B was responsible for harvesting many a grayling and rainbow walking the small stream banks with my dad and brother as a wee lad 40 some years ago. Man this reel brought up some memories
The Shakespeare is nothing special just don’t see them much anymore.
And a sneaky peetz got into the picture not very old i over paid for it likely but needed to own a piece of BC west coast history.

This is a true testament to the functionality and overall longevity of PEETZ reels. There are reels out there that are over 80 years old and still fishing strong.

This one happened to land itself into the middle of a raging fire. In the end when it was rediscovered all chared and burned, you would think that there would be no life left in it. Well the drag and the clicker still work and it turns true on its spindle.

The clicker still sounds amazing.
