Elastic bands on Crab trap doors

Curious if anyone has tried using the square traps without elastic bands on the doors. If so, does it keep them in the trap longer? Of course hard to tell unless you have a gopro in it but curious if you guys have noticed any difference.

Keep the bands on the doors.... no elastics and the current will keep your door open allowing them to go out.... that’s what I’m guessing lol

The elastic bands are for shipping I was told. Take them off and add a small weight to the door.

i remember seeing an old “ fishing with rod “ video where he modded the door with elastic bands to close behind mr crab as he cruises in

couple wraps of coiled pencil lead on the bottom wire works.

I never used elastic but I did use lead fishing weight sinkers with the rubber removed crimped to the doors.

Weighted doors is the way to go.
