I don't want to rely on a global extraction, transportation, refinement supply chain that is controlled by power enclaves in the desert or the whitehouse, thanks.
but you rely on exactly that. no diesel means no farm tractors, no oil means none of these -

oh and food ? that wont be a thing either. Anything breaks ? no plastics or synthetic rubbers. oops. your solar panel ? sorry you rely on oil for manufacture, oil to ship it to you from china, oil to get spare parts to you and oil to manufacture them. panels may last but inverters dont.
The analogy of the sail boat with a diesel motor is useful. I use the diesel for certain tasks, but nothing more than what it is uniquely good at serving. Use the wind when it is blowing. But I don't say wind power sucks because I can't use it 24/7, and we have to run all boats on carbon fuels. if that was the case, we would not have conquered the seas centuries ago.
it does suck. we may have conquered the seas with sails but the vast majority of ships these days are powered with engines and oil. very few commercial vessels use sails. and even when my sailing cat uses sails it still needs engines so i can reef, enter port, motor thru dead patches with no wind, outrace storms etc etc.
there are good arguments for EVs. fuel replacement is not one of them. youre not going to live out the apocalypse in your ford lightning. it will takes weeks for your solar panels to charge the thing. OTOH an ebike will probably get you through it. i charge my escooter and ebikes straight off the solar panels on the cat and in 8 hours they have more than enough charge to run for 40-60km and carry groceries.
