Driving an EV pickup

Interesting to watch what the used ev car market is going to do. Hundreds of thousands coming off lease next year and prices have already cratered. Not enough trucks around to get them cheap but maybe cyberjunk?

@Irishwolf you might be able to pick up a cyber truck cheap

As Ron James says, " a Tesla cyber truck looks like a Delorean humped a rumba". Ugliest thing on the road.

Well I ended up jumping on the EV bandwagon, not a pickup but picked up the new Tesla juniper. I must say I am very impressed with it, the road noise is gone, the new suspension is smooth, it goes like a rocket, the features are unmatched, made in Germany and all for 64K!
Not sure how any other car manufacturer is going to compete with this

Edit - I payed an extra 2600 bucks for the colour I wanted 🤷‍♂️

Did you go for the full self driving? Subscription might be cheaper. A friend bought self driving and says it's massively improved on 7 years and I got to experience it Friday night. I was scared but only one small lane charge error on a dark wet night. I don't trust big tech or other drivers so I was torn over it. He set the speed at 15% over speed limits, which I would ask him to decrease to 5% if I ever get in again on a wet night in residential streets.

And you got the best EV navigation/managament/charging software in the business! Ford can't hold a candle to Tesla on that front.

Does Ford have an autopilot for staying in the lane, braking for traffic, stop signs and red lights? I could imagine giving that up for highway driving, then drive myself in town.

It was pretty impressive, but if it has 15% more time before a collision to figure things out I'll take it!

Full self driving mode for a 3 month trail, then you have to pay, but right now I’m just enjoying driving this rocket, the summon car feature is really cool too, it literally pulls out of the parking spot and comes to you, I’m gonna try it out at the save on foods parking lot😂.

Not really, Blue Cruise is about it. It's a subscription (of course) hands-free cruise control system, only usable on mapped sections of highway. In BC it's just hwy 1 and 5 as far as Kamloops. No point for my use, so I've never tried it.

Now that sounds amazing! As much as I need the exercise, mall and supermarket parking lots are downright dangerous for pedestrians this time of year! I'll often thread between the bumpers of parked cars just to avoid harried shoppers backing out without warning.

Anyone watch this before?

Short but interesting.

Take care.

Can you image a bunch of self driving teslas pulling up to mall or grocery stores loading zones driverless to pick you up because your wife doesn’t want to get her hair wet 😂
No wonder Tesla owners are hated, I definitely see the difference between the way I get treated on the road driving my duramax and the Tesla, with my pick up everyone stays far away and gives me space, with the Tesla it’s almost like they have something to prove

I test Tesla owner's auto braking for them whenever possible.

all my boats are 100% lithium as are my scooty, ebikes, lawnmower etc. but my cars are 100% gas. maybe when its just as easy to swap out batteries from the car as easily as I can on my boats i'll convert em over, probably get a PHEV though and hedge my bets. depreciation technically doesnt matter if you keep your vehicles for 20+ years like i do. my 05 mazda just completed 20 this year and still runs like new at a whopping 290K on its original v6 engine (and the same 700km of range it started with on day 1). will a lightning do it after 20 years on the same battery ? idk but i doubt it.
I recently got a bluetooth OBD unit and the CarScanner app. Its EV battery diagnostics says my battery pack is in very good shape: 98.5% state of health (SOH) after 60,xxx km. No sign yet of problem modules - variation between them is just 0.35%. Note that it shows battery pack age as 32 months, which tracks back to April 2023, when the truck was built, rather than July when I took delivery.

There'll be some of this for a month or two before they're all gone... dealers blowing out Lightnings.

Flash is XLT trim with an Extended Range battery. When I bought mine, the ER battery was a $16,000 upgrade, so I opted for the Standard Range. If you were to offer 5% lower than the price listed below, and the dealer accepted, you'd be getting a new ER for what I paid for my SR. 510 km range, charging speed up to 180 kW, plus it has a heat pump system to reduce winter range loss.

I tried the full self driving feature quite a few times now and it’s amazing, so smooth and drives perfectly. Really impressive. It actually drives better than a person, I was also shocked in the efficiency it drives with, I can’t match it myself, I use more power driving myself even if I’m trying to be efficient then the self driving feature. It’s definitely a noticeable difference in battery range. I did some trips up stave lake road which is a winding mountain road and again very impressive, I used the mad max mode which is the fastest self driving mode, at night and in foggy conditions and boy did it go, way faster then I would of myself, it calculated the drive way better then my eyes can. Only knock is it makes you want to take a nap! I’m half asleep by the time I get to my destination.
Too bad they discontinued the lighting pick up as I spend well over a grand a month on fuel alone for my pick up, it would be very tempting for me to get an electric pick up. Still not a fan of the range and towing, not sure if I’d want to dunk an electric pickup at the boat launch on low tide. For that reason alone I will keep my duramax…. for now

If you tow a good few long trips each year and don't mind capital being tied up in a dedicated tow vehicle, it's not a bad way to go. Everyone has different usage, priorities and finances.

Not an issue. Thousands of Lightnings have launched and retrieved boats since release in 2022. Ford knew this would be a use many owners would have for their truck. Mine has been on the ramp plenty of times in the past two years, fresh amd salt.

Soooo tempting, I might just need some more time to “process” everything in my little brain. My duramax is costing me about 3k a month with payments and fuel, kinda sickening.

Most long distance trips I tow my boat with my motorhome, come to think of it I only need my duramax for local fishing trips,
Oh no! I can see this being the end for my duramax 😭😭😭
