Does size really matter?

I'm heading up to Bamfield later this week and many of the sport fishing shops have a limited supply of med to large anchovies. Many of the available sizes are in the 3 to 4 inch range. I know last year we were able to get 5 to 6 inch anchovies. Does size really matter or is it more important to get the bait to where the fish are?
