Do I need it ... No, but I want it. Rivian Truck

The problem with this survey (and the general population as a whole) is most people look at EV use and infrastructure from an ICE perspective where you run the car until it's out of gas. With EV's the "tank" is full every time you leave the house. And the house is your "gas station." Thus, charging stations are only needed on main highways. Tesla has already thought of this and installed a network of surperchargers across North America that take 30min or less for a charge. Have a look yourself:

Once you get your head around this, the range of a vehicle becomes less important. I actually think most city bound gas stations as we know today will be replaced with parks or coffee shops.

And since this thread is about EV trucks, here's a new one I would take all day long:

IS that a plug in hybrid, i read the article but could not tell

The Ford Maverick is a plug in I believe yes. It's based on the Fords C2 platform which all plug in.

I got so excited to see a small EV truck that I didn't even realize it was hybrid at first. lol

I have been looking at plug in hybrid as i need something that can fit 3 kids and car seats in the back.

I'm probably going to order the Ford Maverick. I was contemplating getting one of the Ford Transit Connects for a cheap commuter that still has some practicality, but the Ford Maverick is pretty much the same price and is more practical. I'll still keep the Ram 3500 for towing and camping.

I have not been able to confirm that it's a plugin hybrid so I would have to say that it's just a standard hybrid. Still looks like a great little truck and with 400 watt power outlet in the cab and bed would, IMHO, be great for camping and light duty use. The turbo model can tug upto 4000lbs so that would fit boats under 18 feet. (It's not clear that the turbo model is hybrid)

Yeah, that's what I think too...."just" a regular hybrid. The powertrains are shared with the newly revised Escape, and I see on the Escape page there's a hybrid model and a plug-in hybrid model. I think they would emphasize the plug-in capability of the Maverick if it was so-equipped.

that's a great point but i go to a Timmy's and it shares the same parking lot with a petrocan that has a fast charging station. That things always full at 7 am with people who forgot to plug in their cars lol

We went the plug in hybrid route and are very happy with the results. We had a charging station installed at the house which the government grant at the time paid 3/4s of the cost ($750 of $1000) My wife seldom goes on trips that are long enough to have the gas engine kick in. She averaged .2 litre per 100km last year which is just shy of 1200 miles per US gallon if I converted correctly. The down side is the plug in needs to run the gas motor for heating in winter but still pretty awesome mileage. We pretty much used this as a step towards fully electric and I’m sure now her next car will be fully electric. The range anxiety is gone and we have a charger built in at home.

Its not practical for everyone, but in our case as a two vehicle family it sure makes sense and most families now a days fit into that category.

My bad guys, I see on the Ford web page that the Maverick is listed as hybrid only. If you visit the dealer site here

Then click "Electrified" at the top, a menu of electric vehicle options drop down. Each is listed as what they are: Full, Hybrid or Plug in Hybrid. Maverick is listed as just Hybrid.

Still a nice truck but pricey. Closing in on 50k fully loaded.

If you’ve priced out other trucks, that isn’t pricey lol

If you price out other trucks, 50k isn’t pricey at all for a loaded truck hah. Although I guess this is a glorified suv pretty much. I still like that they are coming out with a light duty truck for commuters. I bet a lot of trades people will be driving these around

Work bought a Hyundia Kona to test out up here in Northern BC. It works well from about March 15 until Oct 31, then it gets parked. Cannot run the car, heater, heated seats, two radios (VHF and AM/FM) and travel an hour without looking for a charging station when it is -20 outside. Just doesn't like the cold. Been on a test run for two years. Not sure if they will keep it.

About EV and chargers

Cheers

This is true. I just hate monthly payments and paying interest so I was thinking more in the range of freeee haha. I’d be happier paying 30ish but I’m dreaming I know.

My boss went to look at teslas, been trying to get a test drive for months each time hes book the tesla dealer phones him back an says they have sold the demo model. Finally got to test drive one, not the model he wants but similar. Asked the Tesla guy how many they are selling right now our of the dealer, he's like i cant tell you but its lots. He said they are selling more teslas per month out of the richmond location then the whole richmond auto mall is selling total vehicles per month.

Said the sales guys were awesome, everything is simple only thing he was choked about is a red one is 2600 more than a white one. put a 100 dollars down and can get one in 3 months.

regular plug will take 24 hours to charge from empty to full, 220v 30amp service will take 10 hours and fast charging stations take 20 mins.

in the touch screen can put in where you want to go and it will show you where all the fast charging station are.

pretty cool

I think they have one base colour that they change from time to time ever other colour is an option. They say gas may hit two dollars a litre so I think people will learn to live with the colour. Lol

Jeep joins the future.

lots of chatter on the radio today about electric vehicles. 2/3s of people in BC plan to buy electric as their next vehicle and some manufactures going all electric by 2025.

Interesting to hear about how people in New York had to turn of their AC units in the recent heat way to protect the grid from crashing. How ready is the grid for climate change and the electrification of vehicles.
