I’m 18 years old and very proud to call this 23ft ironwood my own. I picked it up in November from the Hakai research institute and got to work right away on it got the whole interior re upholstered and spent a whole week pressure washing and scrubbing now it’s time for bottom paint and I wanna do it right and want to know methods for how to prep? Also I have some good firberglass bottom paint on hand but is it not would I should use? Just looking for some opinions. Aswell as trailer recommendations it’s currently sitting on a 4000lb single axle road runner trailer it’s not my first choice but it does the job if you were to upgrade what’s the go to brand/model And wanted to show off my new skiff.😂

If you’re going to keep it on a trailer, I think it’s better not to use bottom paint. If you do, it has to be a specific paint for aluminum. You have to avoid electrolysis caused by metal in the paint.

Great boat, make sure if you do bottom paint it you do your homework, non copper based anywhere near the aluminum. Also make sure if that is a bunk trailer to put Teflon on UHMD on the bunks so it’s not sitting directly on wet carpet.

Nice! To be 18 and have a boat like that would be wicked. Grab a really good tent and explore the whole coast with her.

I’d weight the boat and trailer to get an idea if it’s legal. Some guys add an additional axle if that one is in good shape. The additional axle doesn’t make it legal I don’t think but it makes it safer. If it’s well over the gvwr my buddy has a trailer from his seasport 22 that will be coming up for sale.
