Please attend this one and stop Enbridge!!

Thx WitW!

I shall be there. I'm sure this will be a massive demonstration and we need it to be a big as possible. When we defeat Harper on the Northern Gateway pipeline, not only do we put a stop to this crazy and frightening scheme to threaten hundreds of BC rivers and lakes and the entire coastline, but we depreciate his political capital. And when we do that, we increase the chance of defeating him at the next election. And when we do that we can vote in someone who is going to repeal the cynical Bill C38 omnibus bill that gutted the fisheries protection act and perhaps, looking further out, get the open net pen fish feed lots out.

We have got to start the damage to his efforts and prestige with this one really big win!! For the salmon and the entire BC coast ecosystem, lets all be there!!

Thanks for posting I will try and rally some people to be there as well.

Either that page is very odd or its not loading properly for me. Anyone else? I cant see times either for the 22nd date.

If you click on the link above or here [http://defendourcoast.ca/find/] you can search for the meeting point in BC near you as this is not just for people in/around Victoria. For us Vancouverites there are several places, including 4th and Alma in Kits outside of Christy Clarks headquarters.

I agree with the net fishers joining us, but NOT the draggers. Their fishing method rapes and mines the sea by indescriminately catching non-targeted species and destroying the sea floor for decades to come in the process. It is a deplorable, unsustainable, highly destructive fishing method that more progressive countries around the world have outlawed. It is a shame to Canadians the DFO still allows it and it proof to our Federal govt. has been corrupted by large corporate fishing interests! That's my 2 bits!

It is not clear is it. As far as I can make out there is one big rally on the 22nd (but no time is given) and then smaller separate local protests outside each MLA's office on the 24th.

I have signed the pledge to attend the rally so I hope to get more information by e-mail. I will follow up as well.

Looks like there was a huge turnout.... not to get off topic but its unfortunate that fish farms dont get this type of attention seeing as how they are currently doing damage and have been for years.

Pipelline Demo today

Well I was in attendance at the demo today and it was great to see so many people out considering it was a working Monday. At least 3-4 thousand people I would say, so we could get triple that number on a week-end.
It was really enlightening to see such a broad coalition of opponents in one place. There were speakers from more than half a dozen First Nations. The NDP critic for Science and technology spoke and several NDP MLA’s were on the podium with him. Elizabeth May spoke up load and clear, especially about the FIPA bill which would transfer all Canadian environmental law making powers to China, since they can then hold us ransom for anything we chose to do.
Several Union and Labour leaders spoke as well, including the union representing pulp and paper workers, which has members who work in the oil sands and the BC Teachers Federation.
All in all, the “Evil Empire” of oil oligarchs run by Harper has brought about a broad coalition of allies, some of whom might not normally always be on the same side. If that is not a demonstration of the complete insanity of this project, nothing else will.
Based on what I heard today, Christy Clarke is toast. The NDP will win the next BC election because she is still up for “selling’ the BC coast, if the bid conditions are right. Like the story of Faust she would sell the soul of BC for the right price. What an unprincipled and money grasping disgrace she is!!

For those in Vancouver there is a Defend our Coast initiative TODAY (Wednesday, Oct. 24) as follows:

Join us at 11:00 am at Almond Park (12th and Dunbar) where we will gather for a few inspirational speeches and then together march to Christy Clark's office. (near 4th and Alma).

I believe there will be some speeches, etc starting at 11am at Almond Park, including one by Tseporah Berman (spelling?), who is a well known author and activist. Anyways, hope to see some of you down there to support the cause to make sure Northern Gateway does not get built

Good to hear CL. There were probably around 300 people or so in Vancouver outside of Clark's office. Lot's of camera crews as well.
