Crazy Rod Retrieval

So crazy story. Today one of my dad's clients goes to hook a fish...they had already missed about 4 by this point so he dives at it...and grabs it with one hand...it's a monster fish and pulls it right outof his hand into the water...bye bye brand new MR3 islander reel and rod...next pass my dad decides to drop his downrigger to close to bottom where the rod went for a dip just in case...brings it up...there is a line attached around it...pulls it in and there is his rod + reel. No joke!!! Luckiest thing I've seen for almost ever. the monster fish got away...but the $1100 in equipment is still good to go haha. LUCKY! It has been a good two days for my pops...so I guess that luck is just to top it off. And I'm sure I could go into details and make the story a wee bit more exciting...but way too tired haha.

Hey Serengeti Guide (David), saw you outside one of your special spots yesterday along with Cuba Libra. We were coming back from 5 days in the Bella Bella area. Fishing was challenging and you had to work for them. SS

So new details...the rod was actually picked up at the other end of the tack....the rod was pulled all the way down there by the fish...when they got the rod off the downrigger (another rod was now out on it), it was covered in kelp and the fish was still on...it surfaced about 90ft away fromt he boat...monster! But then as they tried to get the kelp off quickly but tons of slack went in line and fish got off!

One heck of a fish story, only icing on the cake would have been landing the fish. Nice boat David, if anyone asked we followed you to the hallowed grounds all the way from Shearwater.
