Commander 26 Re Build

I seen that one, beauty
There’s another 26 a guy is rebuilding that is mint, I don’t think it’s on the water yet, he’s got the whole interior redesigned, pretty sick boat, hope there’s some pics when he’s done.

Not my boat.. btw

Having some fun again with the commander.
Secured the front visor and installed the top rub rail. Sealed all hardware with sika. Was kinda worried about this taco rubrail while installing the main strip but after having to smash the insert in with a mallet, it squeezed out and centred out pretty good. The rail matches the lower and most importantly is solid, held in with close to 100 screws. Ended up not using the hardware that came in the box, picked up some 316 for K2 fasteners. Still need to install the bridge bulkhead and run a bead of sika around the edges.IMG_0232.jpegIMG_0241.jpegIMG_0239.jpegIMG_0238.jpegIMG_0237.jpeg

Back on track. Little breaky break is all it takes sometimes

I think I mentioned way back at the start of this thread, you should make the v berth extended under the dinette on that side creating a bit of a coffin sleeper space. That’s how my trophy is most my body fits in there with shoulders and head in the v berth. This should allow 2 adults and a kid or wife and kids to sleep in the v berth. Then the dinette can drop for the 4th sleeper. You’d lose storage cabinets that would normally be under the dinette but good trade off.

I’ve been starting to think of some day podding my boat, not sure if I’ll pod or just drop new inboard and leg in again. I’ve had trouble free power for 800 hrs so far on the 350 mag. The big issue I had aside from price with pod out board was losing money storage space on the swim grid for my huge 165qt cooler. If I had to keep that on deck I’d actually lose space not gain it with podding. I keep a good size food cooler on the dog house and the big fish cooler on the grid. Between the 2 coolers my family is good for food ice and fish for a good amount of time. Now I’ve been brainstorming having some brackets built into the pod that could elevate the cooler above the outboards rigging. Just a thought as you design a new pod for the commander. Would save lots of deck space.

There definitely is room to make some adjustments, there’s a 12” closet between the dinette and v berth. If I take out that closet I can also have a forward facing seat at the dinette. The original commander design is so solid and simple, u could almost cut a hatch opening into the closet and dinette base and have yourself a coffin sleeper.
I’m not too worried about coolers, I should have plenty of space in the engine bay and fly ridge if needed.
