With a Nova Scotia minister right now I think this is a complete done one unless Pacific region pushed back. Not likely.

Nova Scotia lighthouses are all automated.

I think it is stupid decision myself, but what is new with this current government/leadership.

automated lighthouses can do the same job cheaper but it would be nice if they had cameras and a coast guard station to monitor them 24x7. i think the main argument is boots on the ground but you can have better trained boots responding via camera/helicopters from a well stocked CG base near by. of course, they arent going to do that. slap a solar powered light on the lighthouse and call it good i guess.

The obvious locations that could be automated were transitioned years ago. Then a few more in the Harper years. How many are being considered for de-staffing now? Gotta be just a handful, surely. The dollar savings seem miniscule in the context of overall budget. I can't think of any political advantage to be gained by doing it. Who is driving this?
