Have to agree on Meyers. When he gets out classed and out played, which is much of the time, he gets frustrated and turns into a penalty magnet. With his size he should be an intimidation factor but he isn't and other teams are not afraid of him. Also I think he got a 3 yr contract out of Benning. Anyone know how much he is getting paid? It is looking like another example of weak contract management, all the more infuriating to long suffering Canucks fans when they play Calgary because he is then juxtaposed against Tanev who is playing great. When Tanev was with the Canucks, he was good on D and he supported and complemented Hughes making him a more valuable asset by decreasing his downside. Getting Meyers and losing Tanev has turned out to be a double loss.no heart. no grit. no pushback at all. i don’t have a clue what Myers is thinking most of the time, but it’s not defense that’s for sure
Try and remember that there were like 6 or 7 teams after Meyers as he was a UFAHave to agree on Meyers. Also rather frustrating for a Canucks fan to listen to the Calgary after game interviews, where they raved and gushed about Markstrom. They seem almost in disbelief that they managed to grab a lights out goalie for nothing.

Am I missing something here? I get that Calgary are having to pay Marky like the great player he is, but if I remember correctly he was picked up as a free agent so what did the Canucks get paid for him? I have assumed they got nothing. I do remember they once traded off Goalie Schneider for a draft pick and ended up using it to get Horvat which has worked out pretty good. In my view Markstrom is a way better Goalie than Schneider so if they were not going to keep him, perhaps they should have traded him off earlier for a high draft pick and a young superstar.I wouldn't say they got Marky for nothing.... I think they paid royally for him. But because Benning made SO MANY bad contracts for middling 3rd liners, plus Eriksson plus Myers.... there was no money left to keep anyone.
PLUS, he put Toffolli "on hold" ("Hang on, we'll get back to you...") and the same thing with Stetcher, who although not great, was a cheap #5 D-man...
I hope they can Benning or relegate him to chief scout.
Markstrom came to vancouver from a trade sending Luongo back to Florida plus there was a minor leaguer involved each way, not from free agency.Am I missing something here? I know, the cap management has been so screwed up they will be lucky to keep some of the few really good players they have once their price goes up. The good news is that Boeser has been playing great now that he is healed up and Hoglander has potential although he is another highly skilled but somewhat smaller player they already have a number of.
The cap recapture penalty is one of the most illegal things ever. Commish Gary put it in to the new CBA to punish teams that tried to cheat the system. Then, it was reneged on. The only team to get punished? You guessed it: your Vancouver Canucks.Sports team owners everywhere can't help themselves when it comes to spending big on perceived talent. They're forever running into cap problems, breaking rules making longterm deals that make no sense a couple years down the track. Minefield for owners and front offices, one season you look like heroes (eg last years playoff Canucks), next one you're zeroes. Crystal ball gazing required much of time.
Benning doesn't have the cojones...i mean come on. why the canucks didn’t fight this i’ll never know
I've heard from a few people that Miller is going through a divorce and it's probably bugging him. I think he has gotten better the last couple games though. Keep in mind that last year was his best year. This year he is playing like he normally plays in the rest of his NHL career...in todays paper it states Miller says he's happy with his play, I say maybe he needs to sit out a game or 2 and watch vids of himself play instead of the games he misses, maybe this will help him come to his senses, lol. some brutal giveaways by some of their top players was plain fugly to watch. when they are hard on the forecheck and constantly on top of the puck they are successful and look good but the lapses show their weaknesses, especially when the opposition has control in our zone. next game should be a good one, I bet Mackewen is back in the line up,and hope we get Motte back soon.
