Cambell Riiver Halibut meeting

I attended the meeting yesterday with 4 others from the Valley. A Big thank you to LorneParker for driving us all there and Jencourt for arranging it. It was great to meet you all from the forum.
I am really glad that I attended.. Really opend my eyes.
We need to right letters now otherwise our fundamental right to fish will be taken away FOREVER. I wrote my letters this morning. Took all of 15 mins to do it, email them and CC them to the sport fishing institute. I have added Harper, Gail Shea, John Duncan (mp north island) addys here so it it very easy to do. The sports fishing institute should be Cc'd too. I am going to visit John Duncans office too!

We want to fundamental right to a common resource that belongs to ALL Canadians

UPDATE:
I phoned John Duncan"s office and he was out today but I have voiced my concerns and let them know I am not Happy. I know that MP James Lunney from Naniamo attended his constituents meetings and has written a letter to G.Shea. I said I wanted Duncan to get his head out of the sand, or he won't be elected next time. They told me a Press Release is coming Friday.. cant wait!

Yes-- I saw quite a few Valley faces last night..... good meeting, nice to see the lodges counter the BS from the commercials that they just cater to fat 'mercans from Montana with fat wallets. The truth is that the vast majority of the clientel is Canadian who just want to get ahold of a couple of THIER fish.

Remember the information about dropping sales of one particular halibut jig...... well the retail sales have dropped from approx $53000 in 2008 to approx $2500 in 2010 just for this one item! Talk about negative trickle-down effect! Most interesting was the guy that said he had done the math and figured that in order for us to go to 20% , all it would need was for each quota holder give up 1.8% of thier individual quotas. So much for driving the commercial industry into the poorhouse.

And please-- remember the request at the end of the meeting-- keep writing letters and keep the pressure on. And Islandgirl-- just a suggestion , Ask Duncan's staff for an appointment ... that way you keep in his face. But dont expect much..after an hour with him, three of us came away a sense that he is firmly dug in and will not budge... He is sticking to the same BS that DFO and the PHMA are pushing..... having guides and lodges purchase quota.

Posted this in the other forum, but repeating here as I NEED a few contact names in CR for anglers informed on this issue - this for a CTV interview TODAY! Anytime we can capture the attention of the media it is very good for our cause as we all know. Anyone that can help, PLEASE get back to me asap!!

So, I desperately need the names of a few anglers up in Campbell River to pass along to them. Obviously have to be informed on the subject at hand. And I need those names and contact numbers like NOW!!

Gord Kurbis is the reporter's name. He has CTV in his Email addy, and Nanaimo 'A' in his signature line. Likely Channel A News methinks.

^ in Whistler its channel 12 with Shaw, I think that would be the same for Van/Burnaby. Hopefully I havent missed it already. I too sent a number of letters this week. Getting the word out where I can.

Great meeting, nice to meet a few new guys, Calroline, not sure how we missed each other?

This battle is just heating up from what I could tell. Send your letters, have your spouse send theirs and have every friend/aquaintance you know do the same. Write the damn things if you have to. This is a numbers game and we gotta ramp it up!

just heard back from A Channel, it was too late getting edited and off to Vic for today's news....its on for sure tomorrow
